No offence, but one must be mad to put a capsule to the front!
The safest place is the rear middle. You would not have a rear anchor point for the front seat anyway!

I don't have a disabling feature on my 97 S4 either just the warning sticker as above.

On the safety point. I understand where your coming from about being able to see your child. But IMO the safest place has got to be the rear seat for front and side impacts. I don't know if you get rear facing rear seats?

If you pull out from a junction chances are it's the frontal side area that's going to get it. In a head on you've much more metal and space between your child and the front of the car.

But hey that's just my opinion.

Tombs,

I have children myself and I used to be a safety engineer so I do know what I'm talking about.

A recent study in the UK showed that the majority of people are actually driving around with baby seats that would come free in the event of an accident. Also don't forget that in a bad accident the whole front seat can come loose.

Risk analysis shows that children are safest in the back.

If you want to keep any eye on them, there are plenty of aftermarket 'suction' type mirrors that you can buy, and of course it's safer to look at a mirror on the windscreen than to look at the passenger seat.

Oh - and I'm very used to people reacting like you do. It's part of the reason why I left the safety business. Some people don't appreciate the effort we go to to protect them...

Drippy,

I am offended , do you really think that for 1) I would want to put my child in any danger? And 2) Audi dont know what there doing,I mean you would have to be involved in an accident at some speed for the front seats to come loose in an accident?? what sort of speed do you do with your children in your car??? 3) You dont know me and to say people like me...who are you talking about? I appreciate any type of device of parameter that is put in place to ensure the safety of any individual, I should know, I look at cars all day long that have to go through a very stringent safety test to be road legal (SVA).
Plus there are so many factors when it comes to an accident and safety engineers (as you know cause your a an Ex one )can not pre-empt the safety required for all accidents. Lets hope know one here has to find out what they are!

For the record, the baby (my daughter) is secured in a REAR FACING (so your mirrors would be no good!) baby seat, which is very good safety standard seat (again you would know being an EX safety engineer!), which is then put on the back seat, rear facing, secured by the seat belt, as per the instructions. And even then, its very rare we take her out in the car?

Plus it was an observation I was making to mik... I was'nt counting on someone like you taking a pop at me or the way I assess the risks as you like to put it...
Bottom line it would be safer not to take her in the car in the first place... and then again it would be safer not have cars on the road ...

I agree that the risk could be perceived as (marginally) higher when carrying the Child in the Front. However, if the child is safely tied to the babychair/seat etc. I think the risk is about the same as carrying an adult in front....which I think is low enough to live with. Having said that, the risk depends on the actual impact in an accident, i.e. what if the car is hit by a bus from behind....with the child in the back...in London I view that to be one of the greater threats.....
Anyway, thanks to those who answered my question - and to the rest.... Drive safely is probably the best advice.

Cheers

Dippy,

No problem, I was a bit harsh in my responce and it is some times hard to gauge a persons expression when reading posts on a forum.
No harm done mate

Cheers

Tom
