Not too bothered about Sat Nav, as I've got TomTom on a PDA (which I also want to run that Arlabs Vagcom software. The car I'm looking at comes with Leather seats, but they're not Recaros, however, I'll see how I get on.

Remind me, what was the difference between the standard-fit stereo and the BOSE stereo?

Dan,

The Bose upgrade involved replacement speakers in the standard locations including the boot side mounted sub. It also had a separate amplifier.

If memory servers me correct the Bose speakers run off 2 Ohms where as the standard set up (and virtually all aftermarket systems in standard configuration) run off 4 Ohms. It's simplier to upgrade a standard system to aftermarket components than one with Bose.

HTHs,
John

The sub can be found behind the near side boot liner. I think it has 2 4" speakers in a plastic 'box'. I have standard Blaupunkt setup with Bose door speakers. The blaupunkt stuff is sh*te compared to bose

Audi concert headunit is Panasonic, same unit for bose and non bose systems. Difference is Bose has additional amplifier and speakers.

Mikey Quattro,
Saw your van for sale......COOL AS! I went to look at a basket case the other day 1972 for £450 but it wanted way too much work to be viable.

Good luck with the sale.

am i right in saying that only avants have the sub in the quarter lining and saloons rely on the rear shelf speakers cus i have an A6 avant and the stock stereo sounds richer than my bose in my S4 saloon!!!

From my findings so far, that would be a correct assumption buzzard.

Had some more detailed piccies from the dealer today :) Starting to dribble - let's just hope it drives as well as it looks, as it looks MINT!!! (very detailed service history too:) )

**UPDATE**

I'm now the owner of an S4!! :)

Went to see a car yesterday, and well, umm, we bought it!! :D

A pre-facelift 99S Audi S4 Avant with leather interior, Bose stereo, centre arm rest. Got 87K on the clock, but with FASH and a record as long as Mr Tickle's arms!!! The dealer showed me the associated paperwork, adn I nearly bought it there and then!!
2 owners from new. 1st being Audi themselves, then a local guy in Newtown Abbot (Devon)
Had the cam-belt service, along with all-new pads/discs all round - total bill of £1555 (from Audi) Basically, anything that has niggled the owner, he had it straight into the garage to have it sorted. Apart from that the car's been pretty much used for the school run.
The engine bay was pristine - no sign of leaks or splits (from what I could see)
Bodywork/paintwork virtually unblemished - no stone chips at all. All wheels are scuff-free.

Dealer had the HPI done (all clear)

The niggles?
Took the PDF from the downloads section on how to buy an S4 (with the checkbox) -the only thing that I couldn't tick was I needed to check how many keys come with it - the 2 main keys, along with the valet key, but no wafer key. Is this a UK thing or just US?

Another thing was no BOSE sub - it had bose speakers, but looked in the rear wheelarch well, and no sub (?) CD changer was on the other side.
And the driver's seat bolster was a little worn (but not out of character with the age of the car) - I'm thinking that a good application of leather cream/renovation products will bring the seats back to life.

Obviously, the whole thing needed a valet - but it was in fabulous condition anyway :)

The drive - I can only really compare to the Scooby (not a great comparison). Very focussed - great steering. Even better brakes
Performance-wise, very similar. VERY easy to drive :) SOOOO quiet (In comparison, I have got a decat Scoobysport zorst ;) )
Very comfortable - Wifey loved it. So did the kids.

Also comes with an independant RAC warrantee (for 3 months- extendable)
Just need to sort out changing over my private plate :)

Looking forward to picking it up in the next week or so. Will then look at this sub thing :D What do you lot reckon?

The sub is on the same side as the 6 disc. IIRC it's moulded around the ineer arch tub.
Glad you've joined the clan.

What colour?
