I imagine hours aren't going to be negotiated between customer and supplier on the forum. However I can only imagine if someone does go ahead with this route (in car) there is some sort of commitment to the job being less hours labour by enough margin to make it worth while.

I personally would probably want my clutch changed as although low miles it drags sometimes when cold engaging first and I would want my prefacelift oil lines checked/cleaned/replaced.

A shame the K03 hybrids still sound weak - perhaps a nother email to Buehn Engineering to see what they say. I see MarkB's forum post is unanswered. The K03/16 does mention "Lower Shaft Speeds" however, maybe this is the better option on Dougs advice.

I must say this is now looking far more promising that I though likely.

Will be following eagerly if you decide to go ahead S4TAN.

TBH , I have just tried to remove a set of turbos on a rs4 with the engine in place . In the end i removed the engine and i'am glad i did .
The bolts that hold the turbo on the manifold are a pain & the oil & water pipes are the same .
All you need for a kko4 swap is the larger charge pipes & turbos .
Remember this is not a job to be rushed as you only want to do it once.

An RS4 has K04's. I 'think' the premise of this thread is that K03's are 'just' small enough
to remove with the engine in-situ.

This is turning out to be quite a thread. Glad it got a lookin, people in general seem to be so keen to just follow other.

More options and trying different things is the way we learn.

MCB , The kko3 & kko4 are the same size , Even the rs6 kko4 is the same size . It's the the intermal size that is larger.

Looking forward to it :)

I am wondering what the speed of supply of the turbo's will be like from Jacob. I have heard it can be slow.

Nice one Doug and Satan  and MarkB for starting this thread

If this works I can see a lot of people going down this route... me included - so long as nothing major goes wrong with my car till September!

I don't mind being a guinea pig for this - but there are several caveats and provisos:

(1) Doug has to be totally happy to do this in the first place
(2) An agreed labour limit has to be reached (I'm not as rich as Zero66, jeffw, whisky180 et al ...)
(3) If (2) is exceeded then this must be discussed as a contingency with an appropriate contingency plan being put in place prior to any work being undertaken, and acceptable to both parties.
(4) A secondary contingency plan/roll-back plan needs to be established should the engine in-situ turbo-swap become untenable, with price-capping applied and agreed beforehand.
(5) I must have an "MRC Mutant Guinea Pig" badge for my boot if the work is completed successfully

Nope. Sorry. I'll try and escape out of the office later this afternoon and get all the details. I'll try and call the guy today too.

Duh , sorry it's ment for jonnyx  , it's not the size it's the way they fit on the engine  . The book time is 16.8hr's , I can't see any one wanting to take a short cut for a few hour's , What happens if you get a rouned bolt or nut  , the time will go up & the price . I can see the point if your doing the job your self , but if a garage was to do it they would have to warant the job , not easy if you take a short cut .

Quite right Grizz... the amount of time actually saves wont be worth while. Someone like MRC who may charge book time on an engine pull - they probably have this to an art now and can do it far quicker (I would have thought?). Doing something like this they would have to learn all over again and it would end up taking them longer in man hours (at least on the first few) - so not necessarily cost effective for them.

Good call laying the ground rules S4TAN... nothing worse than your engine being half out the engine bay as they the tuner would have you over a barrel and you would have no choice but to agree to whatever terms they provide - justified or not.

After thinking about this over the last week or so I have come to think that if I have to change my turbo's I will probably go down the engine out route. For me and my 90K+ car I would see it as worth popping in a new clutch at the same time.
