Wet Carpet

Post by Wheeeee! » Sat Jun 04, 2005 10:24 pm

Hello,

Washed the car today and noticed that there was a puddle in the passenger footwell. There is a trail of water running down from under the dashboard and the padding under the glovebox is wet. Does anyone have any ideas where it might be coming in from, or is it just a coincindence and the heater matrix has gone at the same time as me washing it?

Only had it for a week

Thanks, Fred.

Had the same thing when i bought mine.
IIRC, it something to do with the battery tray blocked. Water backs up and runs down some sort of vent which is on the floor under the front seat...........
If you use the search option on here, you will find i posted the same question  That diagnosis cured my problem,

Thanks for the response guys. I had a look at around the back of the engine, moved the battery and checked the holes were clear, but nothing blocked. I poured a little bit of water down the windscreen and through the drainage system to see if it did it again but the carpet stayed dry.

The only other thing I can think of is when I used the hose on the wheels. The back of the wheel arch is exactly level with where the water trickle begins on the inside. :?

I'm not sure about the S4, but my wife's Ford Puma had water in the passenger footwell and it turned out to be an aircon fault. Check if yours is still working.

My A4 which I use for work had the same problem and it turned out to be the windscreen.
