Newbie here- Questions regarding Hybrid turbo's

Post by foz01 » Tue Feb 08, 2005 12:01 am

Hi there, picked up my 99 S4 on saturday, have previously had a TT so know all about chipping etc, although as std the S4 is a far far superior car tbh!

Has anyone fitted the Turbo Dynamics Hybrid K03's? was speaking to them last week and they offer them on exchange at a pretty reasonable price.. my cr has done 83k so the std ones must be losing effieciency

Seems more appealing than the K04 upgrade due to the parts required to convert- if i understand correctly then they are literally a bolt on- albeit requiring a remap, anything else, uprated injectors and a fuel pump?

My car has to remain driveable as i use it for towing my track and autocross car- so low down twist is essential

Been doing lots of reading up this last week or so but now will be posting more regularly.

Oh and if anyone has some tuning bits for sale then let me know- exhausts, cats etc stc :D

foz :)

What type of hybrid options are they offering? K03/k04 hybrid has been around for quite a while, quite a lot of people in the US been running them very successfully. Buehn engineering in the US are offering quite a wide choice of hybrids based on both K03 housing and the K04 housing.

Main advantage is as you say bolt on, no new hardware required. However the large part of the bill is removing the engine to replace the turbos.

I have purchased a set of RS4 intercoolers to be fitted when I have my turbo swap done to help keep inlet temps down. This works well with K03 turbos as well.

Depending on how much HP you're looking for, regulator and/or fuel pump maybe required. You might want to get some quotes on a remap also. Speak to the various tuners and see what they recommend and charge for a remap.

Thats interesting as I had an exchance with Craig at Turbo Dynamics fairly recently. He advised that the standard K03 was not
really worth modifying. They only offered standard RS4 K04's or blueprinted + modified ones. What did they offer you exactly?

Very tempted by Jacob's K04/K16 v2 tribrids but don't have the necessary funds. There must be some reason why I had
kids but it escapes me at the moment..... :)

Wow, was you on Santa Pod raceway?

I have found there is no need for that kind of driving in the S4 even at normal traffic light get aways...... It seems to fly without all the revs.....

Maybe I should try it...... There is this BMW 330ci that I love winding up..... For some reason he always ends up behind me at traffic lights and I wait until I see him pull out into the second lane of the dual carriage way then I floor it...... there is normally nothing he can do ;-) Any my car is standard!

I used to play with a trio of Scoobies on the way to work........only one plays now. It's pretty quick once it spools its turbos, the other two won't play any more.......
