Dodgy motor...? Door handles paint touched up

Post by cliveyboy » Sun Oct 10, 2004 12:13 pm

Hi All,

I'm still in my quest for an S4, and have just been to a 1999 model (low mileage) - the general condition of the vehicle (and the service history) do appear to confirm the car's reported mileage.
But there's one curious thing that's bothering me - the paint on the bottom of every door handle has been touched up (with not quite the right colour paint). I have never seen this on any Audi before and it isnt an area I would expect to be especially prone to corrosion.
There is no ther evidence of bodywork touch-up or respray.
Does anyone have any ideas please?

Rgds, Clive

Noithing unusual about that, big rings cause that sort of damage.

Clive,

This is the car I went to see a while back, I also noticed that about the door handles. However, it is definitely genuine mileage as I checked it's history through Audi. The alloys do not look to be at the correct offset and the spec was very basic, but like you said the mileage was very low. Did you like the colour? I didn't mind it too much, but my wife didn't like it, in hindsight I think we did the right thing....don't want to put you off though.....

Julian,
Thanks for that.
How long ago was it you went to look at this? Where was it?
I'm not sure about the colour - I think I will have to rely on my wife if that is the deciding factor.
You're right about the alloys - they're 18", look good from a distance, and tacky close up, and stick out a tad.
Dont sell yours before giving me first refusal...!

The clour is a very light green - not sure of official colour, but its not blue.

Clive,

I've sent you an email.

It is aquarius or cactus green. Saw it up near Newcastle in March/April I think.

I think by rings he means as in the ones you wear on your fingers! But to be on all four door handles.......

Finger rings, large ones can cause damage to door handles. My bad, the colour is 'Aquarius Green' I was getting it mixed up with Kingfisher.

i think i have similar wheels, 5x112, 8x18, 35 offset, all are correct specs. And yes, it looks like it sticks out a little, but only with stock suspension. But once the car is lowered, they stick back flush with the fenders.... attached some b4 and aft pics...

Eric, You're absolutely right. 5 x 112 pcd and 35 offset are correct and I think 8" is widest wheels you should go to (original RS4's are 8.5" which does make them stick out). They look great with the suspension lowered - where/how did you get that done? Is there any difference in the ride?

Excursion, That A4 looks ace! The RS4 finishes are very effective and dont look out of place - any more photos of that one...?

Hi All

The Aquarius green S4 lives just up the road from me. I looked at it in April, seem to remember it had 26k on it and was up for 18 grand. The colour put me off too!
