Cat Damage

Post by wankys4 » Mon May 03, 2004 3:01 pm

Anybody have any details on possible damage to both Cats? After a large gulp of oil was sent down the exhaust, due to the dealer overfilling the engine oil!

I don't understand your question.

My RS4 is stripped as I type. It is believed an oil seal has gone in one of the turbos and sent oil into the intake system and possibly into the CAT's.

At this stage I don't know the full extent of the damage. But I was told that if oil has got to the CATs it's a fair chance they would need to replace them. Not only that, they would probably replace the entire exhaust system as any oil in the boxes will simply lie in them.

I can't believe they overfilled the engine. Then started the car. This is an absolute school boy error. You never EVER start the engine until you checked the oil level for a last and final time before turning the key!!

That's surely a sackable offence IMHO!! :audibash:

Golich what are the symptoms for the oil seals going on your turbos, if you rev the engine (without load) after starting it does it occasionally whiff of burning oil.
As for dealers, are automated, they bash the work through without doing it properly.
Sadly the S4 - RS4 imho are specialist cars and really, it is only engineers that I would like to see work on themb, but thats life -
I think a Honda NSX would be a welcome relief from the constant bills for running this car.

Had a blown turbo on my A6, changed both cats under warranty they were dripping with oil.
If you RTFM, it states dont over fill as cat damage could result.
