mpg ???

hi all
i'm new to 246, been on audisport for a bit but now looking to get a proper car to replace my A3, so that's why you find me in the s4 forum!

Just wondering what so of mpg you guys and girls get from your 2.7 s4's as one of the reason i'd stuck with the A3 is the number of miles i do but that should change soon so don't mind a few more petrol stops

don't know if you've found a 2.7 S4 yet but just placed mine up for sale (see for sale/wanted section) as after some deliberation and quite a few test drives I'm going the new S4 route....in any event get one these are seriously good cars and its taken me some time to pluck up the courage to change mine out. Performance wise the new S4 is gonna need some work on it to match the old S4 however I fancy the V8 and looking forward to extracting a few extra ponies and a little bit more noise!!

The average on my DIS is between 23 and 26MPG with a fairly mixed combination of roads.
This is with 450BHP so not too shabby IMO.

I get any where from 18mpg to 22mpg, I dont think i have ever had more that 22mpg. i think my S4 likes to guzzle a bit too much

About 18mpg on the DIS. Most of my journeys are *gulp* short, cold engine journeys to work and back which probably explains this useless figure.

According to my DIS, 23 to 25mpg on average (a combination of all types of driving and roads). I use Optimax + Octane booster and have a stage II remap so my fuel efficiency is actually higher than stock.

BUT

Based on my measurements over the last few months, it appears that my DIS reads about 2mpg high on average. Therefore I suggest the figures from other owners are a couple of points higher than reality too.

Note that, not surprisingly, fuel efficiency of the S4 goes down when on boost. If most of your driving is in rush-hour traffic and is NOT stop/start type, then you will hardly be on boost. This keeps your average mpg above 20 in general. If a lot of your commuting is at above 50mph cruising, then you definately can get in the high 20s.

The killer for fuel efficiency on the S4 is a lot of low-speed stop/start driving and of course use of full boost.

I get around 22MPG on Optimax on the 20 mile round trip to work everyday, mostly stop/start driving, but with a wee bit of open road

Oh, and I'm bone stock mid year 2000.

thanks for the reply's. Looks like it might not be too bad then, i live out in the countryside so normally on the open road, infact i can't remember last time i was in a traffic jam! usual speed is 50-60 and most journeys are at least half hour. So should be just about best situation for getting a good mpg

I'm getting 21.6 on the DIS, not bad for my first weeks ownership, oh, and loving every minute!

While on the subject of mpg and the DIS, i recently got some new BBS 18x8.5 alloys, these are obviously larger than stock.
Would the difference in size make a big difference to the mpg reading you get from the dis.
I used to get roughly 260/270 miles on a full tank with an average/heavy right foot with the standard alloys.
I am now getting in the region of 220-230 with the new lighter alloys. wata gwaan? I would have expected more mpg.
Also had a crash recently that required extensive bodywork, i keep thinking that there may be something that the mechanics missed (hose leak etc) because of the low mpg reading (thats if it isnt down to the size of the alloys).

I'm presuming that with a larger wheel, you got tyres that are the same circumference as the old ones.
Other than that, wider tyres offer more grip, but also more resistance - so if anything I would expect it to go down. Probably not by that much though.

hmm, 30 - 40 miles less cos of a bit more rubber doesnt sound right, will have to look into it a bit further.

18" rims same & profile tyres will result in wrong reading for the speedo and hence DIS, since each revolution will now be measuring the wrong distance....15% difference seems wrong though would only expect it to be slightly out 2-5%. Run a length of string round each and see how much difference there is between the two. Suspect one of the Chip/ECU guys can sort out the correction, bound to be in the ECU somewhere.
