S4 vs C43
S4 vs C43
Hello there, this is a first post on this forun being a freqenter of pistonheads and scoobynet and hondarevolutionss. I have come over here after reading some of Jeff W's posts on scoobynet. At the moment I am looking for information about a comparison between the aboce cars. I have down loaded the review from CAR magazine and it is quite informative. Have any owners driven/owned both or should I just go and test drive both. I have to say that the insurance for the S4 is 40% less, but I have heard about issues with the brakes and suspension on the S4 is this true, also that there were a few build quality issues at the start.
Many thanks.
Alex

Re: S4 vs C43
Totally different cars mate. I test drove a C43 a while back and i drive an S4 at the moment. C43 is auto only, V8 normally aspirated and rear wheel drive. The handling is ok on the C43 and so is the performance, but it's not an out and out sports car. It certainly didn't feel as quick as my S4 (standard) and the handling wasn't as good (and the S4 isn't exactly perfect either). I think the steering on the Merc is recirculating ball which is why it's totally devoid of any feel. The build quality is great on the Merc but the interior finish isn't quite in the same league as the Audi.
The C43 is a nice car, 'nice' being the operative word. If you want a car to cruise around in and occasionally have the odd blast down a B-road then fine, but it won't outperform or outhandle the S4.

Agreed, the C43 is quick, but I would say it's an older mans car, I also drove one before I bought the S4, and the steering on these and the CLK is very weird.
Don't get me wrong, you feel like the king of the road driving a merc, but Audi's have more of a drivers car feel, and the Quattro system is superb.
If you are looking to buy an S4, I know of an excellent one going for a steal, see here (it's mine!) Lovely S4

Re: S4 vs C43
I should let you know that I drive a Honda Accord Type-R, now it fastish once going and at speed around the twisties it can hold its own, it just hasn't got that fast feeling. I am sure that the 4wd is more than adequate!
May start looking now.
There is a soecialist in the slough area, anybody know it?
Cheers Alex.
