I have the brake warning light (yellow - single beep) but no DTCs. I have had the ABS warning before, so suspect that I'll need to do the 'ECU fix' sometime in the future, but I don't think this is it now.
My front brake pad wear sensors are shorted out (due to my Porsche upgrades), so it would need to be the rears. Inspection without wheel removal suggests that the pads are about 5mm thick, maybe slightly less.
But I didn't think that the B5 had rear pad thickness sensors. Can anyone confirm?
Brake wear sensors?

RE: Brake wear sensors?
Not sure about pad wear sensors, but can say that when my ABS ECU died it was the red (!) symbol which appeared on the DIS.
So hopefully it won't be a problem with your ABS ECU.
