Seat wiring

Post by 951 » Thu Mar 04, 2010 8:20 pm

Ive just bought some new seats out of a facelift S4 to fit into a 98.5 prefacelift car and they have the 3 pin plugs for the airbags (mine has 2),i know the extra wire is an earth but im not sure where to connect it to ??. My car also has a red plug with one brown wire could i connect the airbag earth to this and what is the red plug for anyway ??(the new seats have the red plug with 2 wires). The new seats are manual with electric lumbar support so does anyone know which colour wires i need to connect up

You can run a bridge wire from the earth wire on the red plug across to the airbag earth on the seat.

If you don't have any electrics in your facelift seat, may be worth looking to see if there is actually a pin inside the red connector. If there's not then just remove the earth from the red loom connector and wire it into a facelift airbag plug.

Thanks for the info, the seats have the electric lumbar support and are also heated,im not bothered about the heated parts only the lumbar as its set to rock hard at the moment.Which colour plug is the lumbar and presuming its just a +/- to wire up where is the best place to connect it too ??

I ran a wire from the switched 12v feed under the dash knee bolster. Fed that to the pin diagonally opposite where the earth currently resides.

Think I ran my extra earth cables for the airbags from one of the handbrake bolts (remove the paint first!).

Routing the wire under the carpet from the transmission tunnel to the seats was a huge PITA, but it's possible with a little patience. Don't expect to still have any skin left on your knuckles though!
