S4 80K Service

Post by jammyhl » Thu Dec 11, 2003 6:40 pm

Hi,

In my post about new ownership someone warned about cam belts needing to be done for the 80K service. Thats 12K away so how much do I have to brace myself for when that job turns up..?

Also, what is the recommended service interval for the car?

Thanks,

Jammy

I've just answered a similar question on another website,

According to the Erwin official Audi manual 'Maintenance' The toothed belt, tensioning roller, idler wheel and tensioning lever for cam shaft drive should be replaced every 120km = 74,600miles (approx!).

I read 80K miles banded about personally I wouldn't take the chance and do it at 70K especially if it's been chipped. Piece of mind.

This is the post I answered on Audi sport net

"when I called Audi to ask why the belt wasn't replaced they said it should only be replaced at 120K miles. I thought this strange so called another dealer and they said 80K. I then called another and they said 80K but when I said I was told 120K by another dealer they double checked and said yes it should be 120K. Apparently for the 2000 models onwards the replacement interval is now 120K."

Bloody shocking you'd have feck come back on an unrecorded phone conversation when V6 30 valve timing belt goes!!

Come dealerships get you act togther

Mine is a 2001 model and the book definately states 80K.

However as mine is modded and therefore is more stressed than stock, I intend to have the work done at 60K. I will also have the water pump replaced at the same time since these tend to go and its a relatively cheap bit of preventative maintenance to do whilst the cab belt is off.

Wise words, that’s what I did in preparation. The water pump is an extra £60. I asked to see the old item and should say it was smooth with absolutely no play in it. However better safe than VERY sorry. Be careful AUDI WON'T replace the pump unless you request it!
