New Owner..!

Post by jammyhl » Thu Dec 11, 2003 12:53 pm

Well - I was in the market for a practical car (my current daily vehicle is a 456..! but a dog and mountain bikes don't fit into it..). My partner wanted a pickup but I still had a taste for some speed. We went out shopping at the weekend looking at Scooby Doo's (dog ugly), and then up to Fontain's to check out A6's and All-Roads. Here I had my first encounter close-up with an S4. I'd always ignored the A4 body thinking it was too small (having previously owned an A6), but a test drive and review of our actual requirements (carry dog, carry bikes, rarely carry passengers) put it back in the running. A test drive and quick run down of the reviews confirmed what an excellent Q-car the S4 is and this particular one (1998 S-reg Noggy with leather/Bose/sunroof) fell well inside my 20K budget (otherwise I'd have checked out an RS4 - maybe when I sell the Ferrari..). Not much luck negotiating with Fontain so just swallowed my pride, paid my money and took home a new babe yesterday. 24 hours later and I still luv her..! Looking forward to a track day now...

Welcome to RS246 Jammy - I take it the S4 you got from Fontain was the 96k miler ? Have you verified that it has had the cam belt done at 80k? Mine has done 91k now and still feels like a new car. Seriously consider a short shifter as soon as you can - makes a big difference to the car for very little outlay.

Nope - they sold the 90K miler last week. This car had just come in. S-plate, 68K, same money. Serviced at 67K by Taunton Audi - new tyres, and Fontain put a new MOT on it.

But will look out for the 80K service..! And a quick shifter - where do you get them from, are they a self fit or mechanic fit item?
