Can you hit 60mph in 2nd?

Post by Scotty » Sat Jul 18, 2009 10:38 pm

That'a it really. Just wondering if you had to grab 3rd for 60 or if you could do it in 2nd gear.

The reason for asking is a US mag has published this and I simply can't see how this works out.

C/D TEST RESULTS:
2009 Audi A4 2.0T Quattro - Specs
Zero to 60 mph: 5.7 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 14.4 sec @ 94 mph
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.85 g

C/D TEST RESULTS:
2001 Audi S4 - Specs
Zero to 60 mph: 5.5 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 14.2 sec @ 97 mph
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.86 g

p.s I've got rid of my B6 S4 and now have a B8 2.0T so I'd love it to be S4 performance but I simply can't see it :?

Honda CBR1100XX Super Blackbird

So their 211bhp 2.0T is only just slower than the S4 ? No way... The 2.0T will only hit maybe 7secs I would have thought...

The Yanks believe Audi often deliberately under sell and over deliver.

I dunno what the US mags do but they certainly get low numbers. When I had my B6 S4 I recall the mags reporting 4.9secs!!

If you guys had to grab third just before 60 is would have made more sense but I just don't get their figures.

Underselling is one thing but 6.7 down to 5.7 is huge!!!

I'll assumme it's bollox .... until I come across one of you guys at a set of traffic lights ;)

a good driver with good reactions might beat you if he's very very lucky, redline in our s4 is about 66mph and 0-60 tuned in less than 5seconds. does the the rs4 hit 70mph in second? that has different ratios doesnt it?

I'll race you to 70 or 80 then as that's still 2nd gear in the B8 A4 ;)

I hired a Ford Mondeo once, and that thing had no problem hitting 60mph in 2nd gear. I tried for 60mph in first but it just wouldn't have it, so after about 4 miles trying I gave up........
