204 bhp !!! Need new MAF ?

Post by MGR » Sat Oct 04, 2008 6:54 pm

Just got my car on the dyno and it made a hugely impressive 204 bhp at the flywheel (154 at the wheels)

It was suggested a new MAF would be the solution.

Is this likely and how much would a new MAF cost ?

Very difficult to say without knowing if you've run vagcom checks or not.

The problem could very well be the MAF, but then again it could be a whole host of other sensors which have failed.

Try running the car with the MAF disconnected to see if it runs better.

I've not run the VAG com as I don't own the equipment.

The 'OK' light comes on when you start the car but I'm not sure exactly what this measures.

The 'OK' thing only checks ABS and fluid levels I think. Try unplugging the MAF and go for a drive.

I've just unplugged the MAF. The warning lights appeared on the dash so it was not connected.

It seemed almost the same as with it connected.

The rolling road measured the fuel ratio and it was 14.4 throughout the entire rev range.

I'm in wokingham (berkshire)

I think the car must be running in the limp home mode for some reason. Theres not much boost happening.

I'm in Thatcham, although I could meet you at Savacentre in Calcot if you wanted to run Vagcom on your car.

Cheers
Glen

Hi,

Sorry to hi-jack the thread, I'm relatively new here, just got an S4. Before I plan a trip up to MRC, is there someone local who can offer their VAG-COM services to me? Just to make sure everything is ok. I do plan on heading up to MRC for a remap, but not for a few weeks as I've just paid for insurance and holiday etc!

I'm based near Lymington in the New Forest, half way between Southampton and Bournemouth.

Thanks,

Dan

Sorry, just seen the VAG-COM register sticky. Dam newbies!

Thanks for the offer, I'll let you know as a few others have also been in touch (thanks guys) so I'll find out whats the best solution for everyone.

That would be a good option for me however. Just waiting for a few people to get back to me.

I commute to Staines from Swindon (and off at 8/9 of M4) if you get stuck.
