Potential New Owner

Post by Coxyboy1 » Thu Oct 16, 2003 12:53 pm

Hi

I was wondering if anybody could give me some advice regarding the S4, as I'm a bit new to the Audi scene in general.

The car I'm looking at is as follows :-

"Audi S4 2.7 quattro Bi-Turbo Avant , 1999 T Reg , Manual 6 speed, Stunning Nogaro Blue, Estate, 90,000 miles . Black leather with blue silk nappa, cherished plate, climate control, BOSE hi-fi upgrade, multi-cd, remote alarm, Sat-nav, Xenons, electric sunroof. FASH."

Advertised @ £13995. Is this a good price? Is there anything I should pay particular attention too?

Any feedback would be really appreciated, as I'm going to look at it tomorrow!

Cheers

Coxy

Welcome here

The spec sounds pretty good, but check out the price in a good guide. (I was offered trade-in of £12.5k on my 2000W with 57k miles about a month ago - not that I think it is worth that little )
Also check that the belt change was done at 80k miles, and serviced regularly beforehand.
For all the other S4 pros/cons, you had better start reading now.....

Welcome Coxy, I have a noggy avant T reg with 90k miles ! Is this a private sale or audi specialist (an Audi dealer would be unlikely to re-sell a car with 90k miles). Make sure it comes with a solid warranty that covers upto £3k per claim in case the turbos let go. Get a specialist to check it over for the usual S4 'features' - faulty MAF, BPV's, TBB etc..

Do a search of the site to find out more on these, as they have been discussed numerous times.

Hey, Bushy, Phil T - can we have a buyers guide section on the site with all these things in it - and also a tuners guide ???

Nige, I think one is being written at the moment. Isn't it Joshie?

Thanks for the info. It's a dealer, but not an Audi specialist. I will check out the service history (ring the dealership) and check the warranty.

Cheers again

Also note that turbos don't last for ever anyway, so check if they've been changed.

I'm not sure of your circumstances, but 2 years ago I looked for a used S4 and turned my nose up at them all 'cos I wanted a good condition low mileage one. So I imported a new one again. In hindsight I would have bought a higher mileage one for a good price, and taken it to AmD for a serious overhaul and upgrade...
2001 Silver S4 Avant
AmD remap, APR R1 DVs, APR bipipe, Full Miltek exhaust
H&R coilovers, AWE DTS, Porsche front brakes, Short-shifter, 18" RS4 replicas
Defi-HUD boost gauge / turbo-timer (with afterrun pump modification), Phatbox
