damn egt sensor

Post by curtis11 » Sun Jul 27, 2008 11:50 am

hi guys, got some codes from vagcom and its lookin like the driverside egt has gone, i have had a egt fail before(passenger side) and the car was very slow but this time it feels that it hasnt really lost any power.
codes were 17861 , 17870 , 17862.

any ideas?

I replaced one a few months ago because of a permanent short to earth fault, but still had an intermittant implausible signal fault. After changing the MAF sensor and the other EGT the car is now faultless, ie after a 1700 mile nurburgring trip which included 8 fast laps the car had no faults stored and pulled like a steam train.

It appears the MAF was at fault, maybe under-reading making the car run weak which killed both my EGT sensors. I suggest you log your peak MAF readings and decide whether the MAF is faulty.
