Failed MOT on emissions, will a service help? What do I need?
Failed MOT on emissions, will a service help? What do I need?
Ok so I failed by 0.1 or something like that but actually passed as my Dad took it down, said its my car and my Dad has just retired from the motoring industry so used to put about 30 cars a month through this particular MOT tester!
Surprised really as its had exhaust work done by MIJ Performance but the cats are still in place.
Car is on 111k, seem to remember I bought it back in late August with about 108k, so not done many miles.
The guy I bought it off claimed to changed all filters etc, but when I noticed an oil leak a couple of weeks later (after a 130 mile round trip to Brighton) and found the sump plug had not been done up properly, i'm less inclined to believe the fella as he seem like a bit of a <beep> to me!
So what parts do I need for a service? Is it worth using genuine parts, as my mate works in the parts department of Driftbridge Audi?
Used to working on cars so that wont phase me, just in the past I had the luxury of ramps etc, but then on an oil change etc who really needs it!
Got a K&N panel filter so that wont need chaing as only done around 1k miles so guessing its oil, oil filter, fuel filter.................??

Cool. Shouldnt be too much of a prob.Blower wrote:I think you've summed it all up mate.
Any ideas where the fuel filter is, save the hassle of searching, suppose I could just follow the fuel lines back!

On the services, on what intervals would the fuel filter have been done? Just wondering if it needs doing anyway to be honest

had mine changed at 54k. It needs doing if it hasn't been changed in 111k!! Don't think it's on the schedule. Be careful of rusty banjo bolts

Ok, better to be safe than sorry and just do it I suspect, doubt if the parts will be all that much.

About £13 for a filter. I would only attempt it if you have access to a car ramp

Doug spent about 30 mins changing it. And that was abouve his head. Its tucked up in front of the tank, and can only be accessed from underneath. I wouldn't like to attempt it lead on my back!! And if you shear a banjo bolt or damage the pipework then it could turn into a nightmare!
