S4 common problems / reliability

Post by machaf » Tue Oct 07, 2003 3:51 am

I'm looking at gettinga 2000 or 2001 S4.

I've heard the 2000 models have some issue with oil lines going to the turbos and the throttle body boot.

anyone have any other comments?

yes, it is a common problem with the TBB, but it costs about 5pounds, and can be easily changed by yourself

actually most of the broken turbos are results of the TBB leakage, but if you know your car well, you should feel the power loss, and know when to check the TBB, I can make a picture of a broken TBB, if you want , I have 3 in my garage

I've heard the 2000 models have some issue with oil lines going to the turbos...

This has only been confirmed for US model S4s. There was a turbo design change sometime in the latter half of 2000.

IMO if it affected US cars it would have affected UK cars too, but this has not been confirmed.

Nought wrong with the turbos or TBB on my 98 chipped S4 with 60K on the clock and has been chipped for 13K now or the other 4 S4's I know.

However before chipping, it had a torn TBB! But as Keyser says it's cheap and easy to replace. It would appear the replacement parts i.e. modified hose clamp and rubber have solved the problem.

Who on this site has actualy suffered from the turbo prob?
