after run (I think) is this normal?

Post by Stigter » Fri Jan 18, 2008 2:30 pm

Just noticed over the past 2 days that there is a noise comming from the back of the engine that sounds like the after run pump and the small fan on the front of the radiator is running.

Its not done this before - the temp is showing about 85 and the oil temps about 65 ish just off the first mark or so.

As far as I can tell its not had the mod done to start it early.

Should I be worried, why has it only started to do this now?

Any checks I can carry out?

Regards in advance.

Perhaps your afterrun sensor has gone kaput? How long does it run? IIRC ive read on here that if the sensor is shorted out pump will run for 5 mins before timing out

Is it taking 'normal' time for the oil and coolant to reach those temps?

If so, sounds like mikeyquattro might be onto something.

Have you vagcom'd it?

The car is acting as normal. Temps are all ok. As MikeyQuattro Stated it may be the sensor. Any one know what to log or how to test/replace.

No matter how long the car is ran for, the after run pump and small fan on the front of the radiator runs for about 10mins regardless.

No error codes with VAG-Com

just unplug the sensor connection at the back of the engine bay. which will tell you if the sensors goosed. you can find the pics and how to do it if you look for "after run mod "in the b5rs4 forum. i unplugged mine and shorted it permantly so every time the engines switched off water is circulated through the turbos for 10 mins. i beleive this is called "the poverty mod"

I changed my sensor for the lower temp one ages ago. I have never heard the fan kick in after turning the engine off even with giving it a fair bit of lead foot treatment not long before i let turbos spool down. Would the after run pump mod kick in when engine at full working temp or does it have to be thrashed to get it to work.

Any thoughts on where to start, it was a brand new sensor from the stealers. If not mistaken it shows on their sytem as coming from a VW transporter van (Can't remember the part no. but i got it from a post on here 18 months ago when someone did a write up) . Neither before or after the mod has the fan kicked in or heard anything else work when the engine is off

Just drove home and crawled back down the street so not to wake anyone, parked up and then next thing the After Run started - This time the fan seems to be spinning at top speed, faster then before.

Does it have 2 speeds? If it does the looks Jimbo and everyone else must get every time you park your car - so loud.
