Russboys new weapon of choice

Post by Russboy » Sun Aug 26, 2007 1:12 pm

Well I did it, decided to bit the bullet and go for the slightly higher mileage S4 Avant, due to the sunroof and Recaro leather, and so far I have to admit I think it was a good choice!!

Not as quick as the Evo, but it's never going to be, especially with over 100bhp less, but drives superb, it just feels so solid. Don’t get me wrong with 265bhp (watch this space) it still shifts a bit with it!

Wasn’t too impressed with the guy selling it as he had half washed it so it was covered in water marks and paw prints from his cats, really great condition to try and get a sale! Anyway I looked past it that and decided to go for it, didn’t get the 17" Avus wheels in the deal but then I don’t need them, plus I got him to chuck in the load liner and dog guard.

So after 7 hours of cleaning yesterday (that’s just the outside, although the inside is pretty tidy, she now looks like this:

Work that needs doing:

Nearside rear wheel bearing, hopefully being done on the right side of £100

Brake pads, no doubt uprated, again hopefully n the right side of £100 (can anyone advise on this?)

Looks like someone might have taken a screwdriver to a bit of trim on the driver’s window running up the 'B' post shouldn’t be too expensive.

Small dent below the fuel filler, mate gonna sort that as that’s his profession, reckons on £25 for the job.

It does have a few scratches etc, but then its 9 years old and has done 107k miles, not that it feels like it!

Mods I’m doing:

Full window tint, hopefully next week, for security reasons and to keep the temp down if poss to help the hounds out)

Update S4 badges from the B6 Avant, hopefully by Wed

Panel filter (again can anyone on here advise what to go for?)

Full Miltek cat back exhaust and custom remap by MRC, £1200 but should see 330+bhp

Fit all the equipment such as satnav, DVD, reversing camera etc from the Evo.

Got to wait till next Mon but a trip to the licensing office in Wimbledon means "66 WYD" can go on the car with shortened plates, plus get a years tax at the same time.

Poss cosmetics Inc some carbon fibre trim on the interior, and maybe get the different aircon panel to allow me to use the heated seats (any info on these bits gratefully received!).

Looking for new wheels already and these on eBay have caught my eye: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0144579423 Opinions? Not even sure they'd fit to be honest.

May well change the grill over to an RS4 one or get one from eBay (again could anyone here advise?)

Even considering new headlights, although these maybe a little over the top http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HID-Audi-A4-S4-1- ... dZViewItem

Thanks, on the wheel front I thought I might get shot down in flames on here. They just kind of look the part and are fairly cheap, although i'm still after a certain someones Lambo wheels!

You may well get shot down in flames, it doesn't matter so long as you like it, it's your car after all's said and done.

Personally I think it looks ace as it is, but I know all too well how bad the mod-bug gets to folks.

Enjoy!!

nice looking thing you have there, well done.

noticed that you have a full seatbelt rather than just a lapbelt for the centre rear seat, are they an option or only available for the Avant? i could really do with one of them for the saloon.

Very nice, love the recaro seats and wish mine had them.

I note that like mine your tailgate badge is slightly crooked, thought someone had replaced mine but maybe that's how they all come!

Yeah think it would screw it up a little to be honest.

Subtlety is the way forwards then, hopefully get my RS4 grill by the end of next week and go from there.

Russboy - So you went ahead and bought my old car. I hope you got the guy down on his somewhat optimistic asking price!

You may have noticed already, but when I fitted the Recaros I was missing the centre head rest. at £130 from Vagparts I decided I could live without it!

I hope you enjoy her.
