Out of interest, does anyone know if the RS4 MAF's are any more reliable than the S4 ones?
I seem to remember reading about the last run of the S4's having a Hitachi unit rather than Bosch, but don't know if this was the same as on the RS.

IIRC you are correct that the last b5 S4's did have the hitachi MAF fitted to them and it was the same as the RS4, queue Dippy

Yes, I have a Hitachi MAF. 65,000 miles from new. However due to an electrical fault I can't used VAG-COM to log readings at the moment.
I'm unsure if Hitachi MAFs have any longevity problem - I don't see any reports from RS4 owners about needing to replace theirs.

My car chipped from newish had a failing MAF at 36k - therefore probably sooner than that even.

Mine had a new MAF at around the 100k mark and had probably been gone for a long while before I gought it. was reading 140ish IIRC. Now at 137k on replacement at still reading 257 MRC remapped. No deterioration whatsoever in 37k miles:-)
