Turbo noise

Post by wazza » Fri Jul 11, 2003 2:09 pm

Since having the new turbos fitted in April, there has been a 'police siren' type noise when they are spooling up/down.

It has gone in for it's next service today and I asked them to check the noise out.

They agreed they were noisy and should be changed out.
My warranty has now expired as I had them changed just before it ended.

Audi will *NOT* pay for the costs.
'This is because you did not pay for them in the first place and therefore have no warranty left'

Whatever happened to faulty product replacements? Surely you get one year on the replaced parts.
Has anyone come across this in the past?
Just what I need before going to France tomorrow....

Can't see how they can refuse to make the change if they've admitted the parts they've fitted are faulty. They fitted new parts whilst your car was under warranty and surely new turbos must have some sort of warranty with them. One for Customer Services at Audi UK methinks. Good luck!

A whileback I had a new starter motor - with 12 months warranty - fitted to a car and it failed a year and a day later. The mechanic reminded me when he fitted it and got Lucas to provide a replacement one FOC!

Hi Paul,

This sounds ridiculous.

They can only have been on 2 or 3 months.

I would have expected Audi to have offered you something out of goodwill at the very least.

Or is their argument that they haven't actually failed? To be honerst I think an awaful lot of S4 turbos have a bit of a whistle, including mine.

The whistle is not the problem, it's a whine - like a police siren.
It's only the fact that I'm in for a service (and the old ones never used to make that noise) that I had them checked out.

I believe that if they supplied 'faulty' parts then they should replace them wether I 'paid' for them or not.

Paul,

I know for a fact that Audi parts AND labour is guaranteed for 12 months this is written quite clearly on the reciept.

Hearing your tale makes me furious. I'd like to kick those fe##king to##ers in the kneck for you.

There is no doubt this is absolute nonsense and if Audi's customer services don't take immediate action on this and if need be, provide a courtessy car for your France trip I'd threaten the bandits with a top gear / motoring press complaint. I believe Auto express have an excellent legal eagle. Your insurance free legal advise may also help.

Dave,
I'm telling you again - your turbos don't make anything like the noise Paul is talking about. If fact I had trouble hearing your turbos at all!

Paul,
I agree with the others, they are trying to stitch you up. Don't let these b******s get away with it!

That is absolutely shocking.

Fitted under warranty, but have never worked properly by their own admission but they will not replace them because the car is now out of warranty ?

You are only asking for successful completion of the warranty work, no more.

Give em hell Paul.

I would wish you luck but you should not need any to get a fair result in this case mate.
