Evo FQ340 - dammit!

Post by nickb834 » Mon May 21, 2007 9:57 pm

Today I got my ass handed to me by an Evo FQ340 - which was a strange feeling indeed :-)

Has anybody taken one of these on with just a remapped S4?

Can an S4 without K04's take on an FQ340?

Ah well - best start saving up

Doubt it. Faster in a straight line. Faster round corners.

Went out in one last night funnily enough, very quick for a 2 litre, turbo dont come in till over 3k but when it does it flies and being that the gear ratios are so close, their aint much under 400 bhp that will touch it. the one i went in was an MR and had carbon fibre bits on it. I can imagine they are expensive cars to own especially having to service them every 4.5k and economy cant be too good either.

After 110ish (if you were on a private road) you should have him. They are quick off the line, but dont have much at the top due to their gearboxes.

I would gladly take on one and toy with him :P

Me and rolskii got on the tail of an Evo FQ something-or-other and a pimped-up Supra when we left santa pod yesterday - on the twisty back roads coming out ... they saw us coming and went for it - we stuck right on their bumpers through the bends ... they both ended up pulling over into a layby and letting us pass ...

One friend has a 380 bhp Evo 6 TME and his brother has a 500+bhp EVO 7.

Not been in the big power one but the 380 one will go like a 420+ S4 as its 10% lighter.... no idea of top speed and I dont care either.

Oh and if it matter I was surprised how shyte the build quality is...I thought Mitsubs were supposed to be good...but then they are only about 13-14k brand new in Japan (for normal '280' bhp versions)

I took on Evo 6 which the driver claimed 380bhp. Found a nice private bit of road and booted it behind her all over back of the car she then pulled to the side and i nailed it past her. Mines running 350bhp ish so that evo couldn't have been more than 320 i would have thought since its a bit lighter.

Worst thing about that car is she gets mobility allowance to pay for it as slightly disabled ( lays on her back, too much S**ging thats why lol) Nothing against disabled people but she takes the p*ss. Also swapped her 1 month old micra given through disability for a scooby grrrrr

Looking at it simplistically. Evo 340BHP @ 1400 odd KG, remapped S4 310BHP @ 7 million tons.

Everyday use the S4 is a much nicer car to own... And does better than 20 MPG :P

My mate at work has a FQ340. Modded to about 365BHP I think last time he was in mine/I was in his. Literally yesterday mapped again and now has 303BHP at the wheels, so more like 400BHP.

He has been in mine a few times (drop him to and from his service every 4000 miles lol) and is always amazed how quick it is. Until his last remap he feared my car and honestly thoguth straight line they would be an equal match. Even yesterday after his remap he said he cannot match my hit of low down torque.

Sure his car now WILL be quicker and may have had a slight edge before but my impressionson of his car were it had to be reved fairly high to even notice the turbo and really worked to feel fast. Given that and the lack of refinement, stupid rear spoiler and japanese plastic interior, forget it.

He commented at ~400BHP where he is now that's it as the next move has to have internals changed, so I guess not too many 400+ FQ340s about.

As a track car, it's a great packkage, goes well, handles well, stops well all out the box, but they are not for me and for how close and stage 1 or higher S4 comes to them with a few braking/handling mods, it's a no brainer for a road car.

GrahamS4 - what's been done to yours, horsepower wise? Are you on a remap only or have you gone the K04 route?

I know it's not important to have the fastest car on the roads (Besides, there's always someone like Leon with a faster one :-) ) and even then to get beat by an FQ340 is not embarrasing, but even still there's been some definate :knob: shrinkage in my motor!

I dunno what it is about Rice rocket interiors, they all seem garbage - with the possible exception of the R34 Skyline.

I'm only on a remap, K03, 320BHP. Seriously the S4 is not THAT heavy and the straight line comparison between the two is not that one sided.

I'd take on a FQ340

Nothing wrong with servicing the car every 3-4k, i change my oil that often.

You gonna be ready for a remap next month then Nick?

The biggest difference is not just the top speed but the 50mph+ accerleration due to the torque of the S4.

Took a trip up the A12, A14 and the A140 over the weekend. Speeds anywhere bewteen 45mph and *ahem*. 6th gear the whole time with the odd blat in 5th gear. Brilliant.

If there was an Evo cruising at the same speed by the time he'd dropped down 2 gears to get the revs high enough an S4 would be gone.

John
