Problems

Post by toasty » Thu Jun 19, 2003 12:10 pm

I must admit, I do feel like I'm being a bit picky, but my car is now covered by the Audi warranty, and at £765 I think I should get my moneys worth.

Any ideas on how many of these are actually problems, and how likely I am to get them resolved by my excellent dealer:

1) Centre Armrest keeps 'clicking down' at random times
2) Drivers seat squeaks when going over bumps (only if the seat is in the lowest position)
3) Glovebox door sometimes squeaks when going over bumpy ground
4) Reluctant to go into 1st gear except when the car is stationary (it goes in at say 20mph, but you really have to push hard)
5) reasonably loud exhaust noise when the passenger window is open (there aren't any exhaust leaks, it just seems a bit noisy and certainly alot quieter than the driver window)
6)Driver's door makes light clunking noise when going over bumps (only audiable when radio is off) window also rattles inside the door if the door is shut firmly with the window down
7)Occasional squeaks from the centre console
8) CD changer occasionally errors and locks the head unit (interestingly usually when braking hard and using the horn??!!)
9) Cruise control seems reluctant to work sometimes, however pulling up the clutch and brake with my foot seems to fix it (so assume the switched need adjusting)
10) regular fuel system too rich DTC codes recorded

I think that's it, but I should add none are really anything noticable, just niggles really.

I have the same problem with my centre arm rest.

The other points do sound picky for a warranty claim although i do understand how anoying they can be.

Door rattle cd and cruise i think that they should certainly fix.

Good luck, dont give in to any lame excuses that they might come up with

Go for it Dan, although the extended warranty runs to different terms to the original manufacturer / dealer cover.

I'd be demonstrating the faults and getting them to 'own' them as warranty claims first though, you don't want a big bill the ones they fix at your expense.

Remember Audi Roadside Assistance comes with warranty. Not sure on a cash value, but would guess at £ 200. Its something off the £ 765 anyway.

I just had a claim paid for a split Y hose, so I feel I've had something back already.

Best of luck.

I`m going to be buying extended warranty for my S3 before the end of the year is out and think on most german cars in the Uk have expensive repair/labour costs f you have to pay out of your pocket, i personally wouldnt be able to afford a lump sum in the future if something major went wrong! well worth it if you claim and also the roadsite assistance is good to have too.
For peace and mind its good!

Dan,

You should claim for all of them, but then be realistic about what is the minimum you will accept.

IMO 1, 4, 8, 9 & 10 are problems which should be fixed, however I suspect that 1 is a design fault which cannot be fixed.

I guess that all the others would be considered fair wear for a car of its age. Nevertheless use them as claims to make sure that the others are done.

Dan, for problem 9 - the cruise control problem - I had this on my S3 and had the brake switch replaced under warranty - basically intermittiently cruise would not engage - common fault on the A3/S3 at least - garage knew what it was as soon as I mentioned it
