Has anyone not had a car with power steering that whined during some part of the turn...? :bash:

Gotta admit that my beemers never whined on full-lock, or any part of the turn for that matter.......(but they weren't anywhere near as much fun as the S4)

Sorry must of been asleep when this forum changed into RS24whiningbitch.com.

Every S4 has always whined on full lock. I drove 10 cars before buying mine and every single one whined like a nymphomaniac on heat. Search for every half decent buyers guide it'll say whines like a bitch on heat on full lock, don't worry about it.

Search for whine + power steering on any Audi s4 forum you'll get loads of hits. Every one will say yes they do that. Get over it and enjoy the car!

P.S My mate has owned 3 BMWs (1 x 3 series coupe, 1 x 3 series Saloon and a 5 series) every one has a point where the power steering whines.

P.P.S The turbos explode. Especially when chipped or run on crappy oil.

P.P.P.S The 1-2 gear shift is shockingly bad when cold.

P.P.P.P.S Who cares if it whines like a biatch on full lock? It'll destroy most super cars from A>B with 3 mates and luggage any time any place and costs peanuts to run.

P.P.P.P.P.S Try running a super car for the cost of an S4. 3K mile services (Ferrari), £5k cambelt changes (Maserati), Valet parking charges (no one parks a Lamboughini in a public car park), £12K for a set of brake of disks and pads (Porsche Ceramic Brakes).

You got to pay to play. Don't like the heat, get out the sauna.

@shinydave
could be the same thing, when you go on to full lock the pressure relief will open as the rack is physically restrained at the end of the rack movement and the oil has to go somewhere or a hose will go. in your case the size of the tyres and low pressure may be causing the same effect, i.e, the pump is producing full pressure but the system can't turn the wheels immediately because of the increased contact patch due to the width and reduced pressure, therefore the oil has to go somewhere so it goes down the relief
Thread sorted? :thumbs:

D'oh... Kaygee... Look back at my post... its not about whining at full lock!!!! My car does it all the way/all the time when cold. My question was IS THAT a sign of a pump failing. If so then I can pursue it before my "warranty" expires.

Zero66,

Apologies, my bad. I get angry with same questions being repeatedly posted, one of which is my power steering whines on full lock.....

Three options pump is fcuk'd or pressure valve is fcuk'd or you need to put some fluid in. You seem reasonably intelligent so we assume fluid level is good. If the fluid is dropping and you recently topped it up then look at the seals if not then that leaves two options pump or pressure relief valve.

Rgds

Ahh, thank you kaygee :) - fluid levels are indeed fine. So it could well be a pump on its way out. I will have to get it into the dealership again, they will find some excuse not to warrant it no doubt.
