No alarm sounding not even a bleep

Post by S4Daz » Mon Jun 26, 2006 12:57 pm

Sadly some arsehole decided to break into my beloved S4 last night to steel a cheap and nasty hands free kit, Unfortunately the alarm went off but no noise's bleeps - not even a faint whisper of an alarm was heard at 130 this morning. All she did was flash the hazards. My own fault for not putting it back in the garage I know, but this is not right does any one know how to make the alarm more sensitive or even just louder, I have checked some of the alarm posts on electrical but nothing really related, as ever your help is greatly appreciated

Also does anyone know of any meets in the midlands area thanks :beerchug:

Daz,

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.
The alarm sounder is in a pretty crazy place, nicely soundproofed in the recesses of the boot...! :audibash:

Are you saying that your alarm didnt sound at all, or just that you didnt hear it? If it's not sounding at all, this should show up in the DTCs in Vagcom - if it's not a loose connection then it's a dead horn, which needs replacing (about £70 from Audi).

If the horn simply isnt loud enough, then a good place to relocate it is in the engine bay, from where it seems to be about 3 times louder!

As for making it more sensitive, there is no tilt sensor, but you could link one in with the existing alarm circuit.

Can anyone tell where the unit actually is?

I have had a look under and in the boot and not found it yet.

Like S4daz mine has been triggered (by me leaving the window open) but no sound, just a DTC in the VAGCOM saying there was no communication with the Sounder Unit.

It did used to do the 4 beeps but I guess now the battery is completely knackered and it no longer works.......

If I can find the unit I can try and see if VAGPARTS so a replacement!

cheers

Shineydave has both replaced and relocated the horn sounder recently - I'm sure he'll be along soon...

it's in the boot well on the right hand side. pull the carpet up and look in the well, it's bolted to the boot floor directly in front of the rear light unit. i fitted a new one for the same reason, no communication, the battery was as dead as a dead thing. you can break them open apparantly and replace the battery but it's quite a bit of buggering about to find a replacement battery so i just bought a new one. then when i got it working i found there was hardly any sound coming out of it due to the poor location so i just extended the wires and mounted it under the bonnet. much more effective.

Don't know why you would want to upgrade the alarm if you live in a nice, safe place like Bradford...
