Retro Fit Heated seats

Post by gridders » Thu Jun 01, 2006 9:50 am

If anyone wishes to retro fit the heated seat option to the B5 FACELIFT with double din (Symphony or Nav PLus) Please PM me as I have info and one switchpanel/Aircon unit surplus to requirements.

I take it that this requires new seats?

Unless you've retro-fitted the later Recaros as these came as std with heating elements AFAIK .

I thought the main problem was the lack of wiring harness between the seats and the dash - this was doscussed a while back and the concensus was that S4 didn't come pre-wired.

Take a look underneath, I imagine there should be a connector for the heating elements?

After seeing Si's Recaros in the Classifieds it got me thinking if my recaro's might have the heathing elements already, come accross this in the search.

What exactly should I be looking for under my Recaro's? As far as I recall I have a quite a few different coloured plugs under the seats, they all have stuff plugged into them, am I simply looking for an empty plug socket?

A long shot i guess....

Recaro UK told me that the Audi SAB seats come with the elements as standard.

Interesting, what does SAB stand for? You mean the Audi ones and not aftermarket ones?

has it happens..............................

got a call from a mate this morning who has a 51 plate Golf GT TDI thingy, said his drivers side seat had stopped heating and would i care to take a look at it for him. when we got the seat out (5 minute job) and stripped the covers off, (errrrrrrrrrrrr.............considerably longer job) we found a broken element that we repaired. anyway................

on the Golf seats there's a large green plug under the seat that feeds the heaters, i don't have that plug under my Recaros but the heater elements are a doddle to fit anyway, they just stick to the foam of the cushions so retrofitting them should be a piece of cake.

it's also not that big a job to get the cover loose from the rear of the seat i suppose so checking whether the heaters are present or not wouldn't be that difficult anyway.

Doesn't sound too easy! I'll check my seats later to see if I have the plug. Does this mean that the elements might be installed but the seat wiring loom maybe not?
