Not only... as we recently discovered. Its 80k or 5 years - whichever is sooner!! So it is overdue!

PS: As said by others - dont bother with RAC or even Audi - they dont know these cars well enough. Get to a specialist... MRC or Dynalynx etc.

I think an inspection by an independent is better than an RAC/AA inspectionn. I had a car done by RAC once which stated "Exhaust has limited life"...it fell off after 12 miles and tore off the rear bumper. Limited life my Ar*e! The inspection went into great detail about stone chips and minor parking ding - all minor cosmetic stuff.

Anyway, I bought my RS4 privately 2 years ago and had an Audi inspection and an Audi warranty put on it (warranty costs are lower on the S4 than the RS4 I think) and found that na effective way of allaying my fears.

As mentioned above, 80k is a big service and its worthwhile having water pump etc replaced at the same time (had mine done two days ago (RS4 at Audi garage - just over a grand) but you'd pay less at an independent.

If you get it...enjoy it, if you don't get it, another one will come along and you'll enjoy that instead!

These cars come with one important (free) optional extra... a huge.... :biggrin3:

I am at a loose end for 2 weeks but I live 50 miles north of Aberdeen

You have just to go for it. You could mess around for long enough, will I won't I, you just need to take the plunge. I believe these inspections are a waste of money.

You could get everything inspected part with the cash and the turbos would let got 50 miles up the road.

Turbos letting are pretty rare any way, on saying that the car being chipped does not help your decision.

All you can do is check it over to the best of your ability and if all seems well just do it

Not wanting to be difficult but... If, like you say, there is milk in the oil cap then it IS an engine out job. It's either head gasket or cracked head or cracked liner or something nasty like that. All of which can be fixed but you are talking thousands if you aren't capable of rebuilding the engine yourself.

No smoke without fire...

If you can't get a specialist to look at the car (which I would recommend) then I could come across on Monday to look at it......I'm not a mechanic or an Audi specialist, just a S4 owner. We'd be able to check any error codes via my Vag-Com and I have an idea of what these cars are mean't to go like but that's about it.

Have you thought about contacting AMD who did the stage I to see what they thought/think of the car? That's precisely what I did when I bought my RS4 (although not AMD). I also spoke with the garage that handled the servicing of the car. Both with owners permission of course cos of data protection etc...but if the owner isn't willing to give permission he must be hiding something.

Typical...when you try and be nice to someone your car blows up. Sorry Lee but my car is at MRC awaiting serious heart surgery involving engine out so I'll not be able to have a look see on Monday.
