Drive Train Shock!!
Drive Train Shock!!
Ok Ive had my beloved S4 for 6 months now, although I'm starting to notice movement in the gear stick of about 10mm back and forward on acceleration and deceleration, and the clutch seems a little snappy... I noticed that APR do a Snub-mount replacement, is this the best part to cure it?!?- any advise would be greatly appreciated cheers all S4 Daz

RE: Drive Train Shock!!
since putting a short shift on mine ,its reduced this movement in the lever quite a bit. not just in the throw but also in transmision rock.
part of the kit has some plastic slide mounts for the mechanism and these stiffen things up.
there are several modified mounts that you can change to stiffen the engine and box but not done any me self yet.

RE: Drive Train Shock!!
Hey, I've got one of these snub mounts - seemed like a good thing to buy at the time - but have no idea what to do with it...
Any clues or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Drive Train Shock!!!
Cool I was holding off fitting my short shifter as was worried this would make it worse!!!,
I'll get it fitted, hopefully should do the trick
if not gonna order this snub mount its only 28 quid and fits at the front of the engine must be stronger than OEM
it cant do any harm anyway S4 Daz

RE: Drive Train Shock!!!
clive you need take front of the car revealing the front snub mount that holds your engine in place and put the modified one you have on in its place hopefully you will get less front to back rock on acceleration..
one of the tuning sites has a guide to fitting it i forget which , possibly on AW too

Thanks Dummi (that would be a better name for me actually on the mechanical side!) - so does that involve lifting the engine out then??

RE: Drive Train Shock!!!
no, take of
1. the bumper then the assembly with headlights,
2. probably good to remove radiator to make it easier for yourself, air con matrix can stay on and closed
3. and fans assembly
4. and pretty much on the front is open and the snub revealed,
the whole of that is probably only 20 bolts off then on and coolant for your system
engine stays in , you may be able to do it with less removed it is really the panel with the fans and headlights attached that is in the way, i had the whole engine out and thats what i saw needed removing for the snub as i have one i want to fit i took note, think i have a pic i will post in a few minutes

That's great stuff - thanks Dummi.
Looks like a job to be done when fitting an APR bi-pipe (or RS4 intercoolers!)

DTS or snub mount?
and if you fit both...?Dippy wrote:From what I've read, an AWE DTS does better than an APR snub.
