I have the same problem on the driver's side window trims.

It appears to have stained the Ali milky under what seems to be a clear coat.

I was about to replace them if they can't be polished so please save me the trouble?

its caused by caustic cleaners...high alkali content that just does not bode well for ali, chrome etc....commonly all this tosh is used at your local hand car wash....it also destroys your window rubbers as well....

To resolve you need a fine metal polish....I use Einzett Chrome Metal Polish....works a treat but what you really need to do is be wary of what touches your car....

I give up. I polished the trim for ages but there seems to be a waterproof coating on the Ali.

All that happened was that the surface became highly polished whereas the original finish is satin/matt.

No metallic residue appeared on the cloth which leads me to think that the staining is under a coating.

Time to buy some new trim :(

If the water marks are under the coating then I wouldnt have mentioned the product....it sounds like there is a clear Lacquer over the trim which would lead me to believe that the damage is too far gone for much to be done....if it was just a stand alone chrome finish with no coating Einzett would have worked....

Sorry if it ddnt work for you....and for any confusion....

Nothing I've tried on mine so far has worked. I agree with the above, the discolouration appears to be underneath some sort of clear top coat or lacquer.

I think its been suggested elsewhere on here that Werkstat Prime works but I've yet to try it.

Nothing will sort it, I've spoke to numerous detailers about it :(

I've had some of mine replaced but Audi charge a fortune! I'd get the rest done if I could find somewhere reasonable to do it!

Oh, not so good then. Had a quick look at mine again today and the ally trim dosn't look so bad post wash but the black pillers have suffered from some aggresive cleaner. Might be lucky if I get on there with some back to black? Would give it a try now but it started raining once I finished cleaning :(

If your trim over the top is not to bad, the door trims are reasonably priced and easy to install.

Was quoted less than £100 for all four door trims from Audi.

Old post resurrection!

I washed my car yesterday (Bilthamber Auto-foam and then Auto-wash). It was well rinsed before any chance to dry and then I got a bout of the milky water mark staining. The only thing in my cleaning arsenal to remove it was a thin wipe of GT85. I fear this maybe only be a temp solution, but will report back if it comes through again.

I was on the fence of having the satin trim wrapped black and this may just make my mind up for me. However I would still like to get sorted before any wrap being applied. :/
