What product(s) should I use to clean exhaust tips?

Post by RS4_Nick » Sun Apr 03, 2011 10:26 am

As title says my exhausts are looking a little dirty and a simple wipe with an old sponge isn't enough to bring them back to the nice, polished finish.

Any tips? (Excuse the pun)

Nick

Autosol will also do the trick. Sold in Halfords.

I'm trying Optimum metal polish at present and it seem to do a better job than Autosol looks shine and reflection wise but Autodsol better on getting rid of initial oxidation so use the latter first and then the former as a top coat.

Optimum brought up all the chrome door furniture on the front door a treat.

+1 to the above. I used Autosol as then initial oxidisation clean, then to maintain the look used Optimum metal Polish to great effect when had the Evo to keep the pipes nice and brite and under the bonnet for all the alumnium and britework.

Currently I am using the Britemax twins - polish and selant, you can see the results in my detai ling threads. I use a MF pad to apply and work in, then a mf to buff off. If need a bit more bite then a bit of wire wool or various grades of wet and dry as required to bring them up nice.

Or people could save themselves another wasted hour of their lives,.... rub on sub Autosol (or similar), wait a minute.... then rub off. Job done.

Or you could usse Autosol and then Optimum Metal Polish on top and take two minutes every couple of months instead of having to resort to Autosol for a minute every few weeks.....

Optimum produces a far higher sheen and lustre than Autosol.
