not being an anorak, but you probably need "wax" not "polish" usually anything called polish is slightly abbrasive and is usually used pre-waxing and generally you need to know what you are doing with it to avoid swirl marks... meguires have a quick liquid wax from Halfords, however the good stuff is the easiest to use I find.. I use Swissvax formally Swissol, used with a decent applicator pad and buffed gently with a soft towelling towel or microfibre cloth will see great results... sorry if teaching to suck eggs, but just apply the wax in straight lines along the car and buff in straight lines also....

We all have our own favourites but as Jason said above, either Swissvax or the Meguires Gold wax is excellent. I use both but I'm gradually using the Megs stuff more and more these days. Much easier to put on and the shine is just brilliant.

How do you apply and buff your Gold Wax Graham?

I find it stubborn as hell to buff off but maybe I'm leaving it too long?

I normally just wax up the whole car and then get going on wiping it off...

There was no way I was going to throw it away so I'm resigned to more arm ache in the future although I have just bought a G220...

One panel at a time maximum. The old saying, Wipe on - wipe of.

Try just waxing up the front wing, then the drivers door panel then go back and wipe off the front wing, if you have four doors ( ) wax up the rear door panel and then wipe of the drivers door and so on.

Once the complete car is done, I then go over each panel seperately with a very fine water spray, a clean microfibre cloth to spread the water droplets and then another clean microfibre cloth for 'setting off' the wax.

Follow that and it will look a million dollars in a couple of hours without any swirl marks whatsoever - honest.

I would test your skills with the G220 on something else before you try it on the RS. You can get carried away and burn the paint very quickly if you're not careful. practice makes perfect as they say, maybe try on a friend or relitives car who's paint is very dull etc. that's what I did and then when I was happy that I could do a good job on my own car went from there.

Wax wise what the guys have already said although I use DODO juice purple haze as my car is a dark colour and Love it

And def one panel at a time mate

Jim,

pippyrips is gonna give me a lesson at the weekend....

How easy should the wax be to wipe off? I reckon I was either using too much wax or leaving it on too long...

Cheers.

If you are looking for an easy to use wax that is resilient and lasts for upto 12months, I would recommend Colinite 476s. You can buy it online from a number of places such as www.cleanyourcar.co.uk. As suggested in a previous post, buy yourself a couple of micro-fiber towels to make the job even easier. I also use Zymol, Swisswax and Megs products, great if you have plenty of time and don’t mind re applying every 3 months..

Perfect!!! I'm sure you'll pick it up quickly especially with someone teaching you too.......

It sounds like a little bit of both. too much wax and leaving it on too long!

I'm sure Pippyrips will give you plenty of other good cleaning tips.

good luck

I'd say if this is the first time you've done anything with it since you've had it, i'd go with a 60/40 mix of autoglym super resin polish/extra gloss protection!
It will probably need some crap removing off the paint, THEN wax it! :)

Thanks for all your advice on wax guys.

Now, what about application and removal, what's best to use ?

Not looking for cheapest option.
