Which screenwash?

Post by CliveH » Fri Nov 02, 2007 9:47 pm

OK, not the most exciting of topics, and not a patch on the likes of "How to fit RS6 turbos", and before I get shot down in flames, I have searched the forums and can't find anything on this one...

I've just been thinking that after 3 years of ownership, I've never given a second thought to the screenwash I regularly fill up with (no small quantity, especially in the winter months).

I have to admit to being guilty of merrily filling up with any old gunk, usually from Halfords (disclaimer : other brands are available) especially when it's 2 for 1...

So, I'm just wondering : is there a preferred brand/solution? I realise that most of it is directed at the screen (hence the name), but I'm concerned that when using the cheaper stuff, if it's full of contaminants and other nasty stuff, it could potentially be damaging the surrounding paintwork...? (or worse??)

Any input/tips greatly appreciated

Meths mixed with distilled water works a treat for me.

I'm guilty of using Halfords finest too Clive. Always been ok for me, with no adverse effect to the paintwork

the wifes broomstick, sorry, Passat has a recommendation to use genuine VW screenwash as it has the fan type spray nozzles which other fluids can block. my favoured brand, anyoldshiticanfind has never had an adverse effect on it nor mine
