Hi all,

Had the car detailed at the end of august, only just getting round to posting a link.

Think most things are covered in the write up. Needless to say I was very pleased with the results!

Nice one! Looks like we use the same people. Clark's been doing an amazing job on my cars for the last year.

Just be careful. The last detailed daytona RS4 caused a few members to leave the site.

This was todays work, a nice straight forward detail for me



This is 1 of 3 RS4's we now have on the books for maintainance plans, and the owner of this one hadnt washed the car since picking it up from the dealers (who were told not to prep it) so as not to risk inflicting any marring etc untill we could book him in for the first detail of the plan.

Obviously this meant the car was fairly dirty upon arrival, although not too bad, having covered just over 100 miles....






Wash:

I firstly gave the arches (which are all fabric - i hate these!!) a good soaking of Safe de-greaser and then foamed the car with APC through the foam gun, this was left to dwell for ten mins before being rinsed off at high pressure. The car was then foamed a further 2 times before being left to soak in while i cleaned the wheels with a non acidic wheel and tyre gel, these were rinsed off and i then washed the car carefully with the 2 bucket method after foaming for a 3rd time to maximise lubricity, this is what i do with my own car and it works extremely well

Once rinsed off, i did the fingertip test and the paint was silky smooth, a little surprising but good news for me I just used a bit of tar and glue on the wheels and arch lips to remove some small amounts of tar but they were minimal.

I then dried the car off with the leaf blower and drove it inside.



Polish:

I closely inspected the paintwork with my L.E.D torch and was shocked, the paint was spot on! except for a light scuff on the bonnet which was easily polished out by hand, even the bumpers were A1!

So luckily, there was no need for polishing today, result!



LSP:

This is another Vintage maintainance plan so the paint was firstly HD Cleansed by hand and a mf applicator pad before i applied the wax to the whole car (including the window rubbers) and left it for approx an hour. During this time i sealed the wheels, dressed the tyres, polished the tailpipes (which are meant to be black by the way :p) and detailed the interior, which only needed a light hoover, wipe down, glass cleaned and leather fed with Treat

I then buffed off the wax and inspected for smears, and at this point there were none what so ever, so the car didnt receive a final wipe down this time.

Yea, I remember seeing the state they delivered yours in, unbelievable!

Well ive just ordered my Ultimate Detailing machine, adapter, plug etc. My Zymol clay 2 and lube arrived yesterday so im going to have a go myself.

None I would hope, and no Alex that won't happen Just moved here as it's more appropriate.

I think we can safely say that the previous thread was a combination of two guys with a 'little' history, and a really grey area when it comes to protecting the trade status contributors. I don't think the registered users are seeing any contunuity or indeed consistency in recent actions by the Crew, and that's wrong and on our part needs to be sorted before any other users or Crew end up on their arses again.

Here's the crack - no spin (honest). It's been a grey area for some time as to what is constituted as advertising and how best it is dealt with considering we do have guys paying for the privelege. Suffice to say that the previous thread, rightly or wrongly, was treated as a threat to the trade status, no doubt fuelled by the two personalities involved.

My friend and co Crew, Simon, is a businessman, and a very successful one at that. As any of you who run a business know, it's not easy, and sometimes you have to go with your instinct. Taking the situation between S4TAN and Simon out of it, I think it was the wrong call. But hey, wrong calls are made all the time, let's get over it

In fact I made few wrong decisions when I was Admin on here back in '04, indeed even chucked my toys out big style at one point. We learn from it.

Nevertheless, it shouldn't IMHO have happened

After much discussion in our 'back office' so to speak, we have stepped back a bit to take a more realistic view on how to run a fun/informative site, but still maintain a business head when it comes to generating revenue to contribute to running costs.

My personal view is that any thread that refers to works that have been done are fine, even with links (obviously unless we know something dodgy that you guys don't, in which case we the Crew should be slightly more informative in our approach) - I mean you can't show how your car has being fantastically detailed (or whatever) without posting who did it can you? And if you did, the next poster would ask who did it anyhow. But when the poster is the guy doing the work, making money from those works, but not registered with Trade Status, then that's when we would need to have a polite word (ok well maybe not so polite from Simon I probs wouldn't be too polite myself come to think of it).

I don't think it was right that S4TAN felt he had to leave, but that was his choice. I for one hope he comes back, and you'll have my name on the petition as soon as I've finished this. It would be good to have him as a sparring partner on here Mind you if he fecks with me he'll end up with an arse the size of a clown's pocket

Hope we can use this as a way forward for all of us, coz ultimately we all want the same thing ie. RS246 to be a cool site to use.

Extactly my thoughts. All we try to do is save ourselves from the (repeated) questions..

Back on topic and out of interest; what is the average cost of a "maintenance" plan for detailing, and what does it actually come with/do?

I've pretty much lost track of payments now, however I think it works out to be about £1800 per year for my maintenance contract with Polished Bliss. I paid an initial deposit (I can't remember how much, £500ish), followed by £100 a month.

For that, I got an initial correction detail, where all the swirl marks and light scratches were removed from the car, followed by eleven monthly top-up details and a further correction detail at a time of my choosing. All the details are done with Zymol Vintage wax.
