I'm hoping for a quick response on here before I get moved over to the cleaning/car care thread.....

Just cleaned the car for the first time since pickup on Monday using the tips gained on here....Meguairs products......

Me 2 boys (2&3) were joinin in by washing their bikes.......next minute though I wanders round one side of the car to see the youngest using an outside sweeping brush on the car!!!!!!!!

End result about 4/5 hairline scratches on the front wing :(

Is best way to get these out with scratch x or Meguiars bodyscrub? And how are they best used?

Cheers in advance and I'll be sending em both out with the wife in future!

Feel for you there... a very proud moment with your lads quickly turning to personal anguish.

First day my nephew took the stabilisers off his bike he rode down the side of my brother-in-laws car and gouged the brake leaver into the drivers door.

The answer to your problem depends on the depth of the scratch, if they are truly hairline and just into lacquer then a quality polish and wax, but if its into paint & primer then paint is your only real answer. I can highly recommend a valeter/detailer, pm me for details if you need.

Same answer as Steves. If they're hairline then any half decent polish will get the scratches out (may take a couple of applications), but if it's gone well into the actual paint layer then it will need painting although ChipsAway may be able to fix at a far lower cost than a bodyshop. Also worth noting that most Audi dealers can now put you in touch with their touch up experts who can repair alloys, stonechips & scratches etc.

Cheers all to date, what is classed as a decent polish? Got meself some Mequairs liquid wax already for when I've sorted the scratch....

Just posted a couple of pics in my gallery, car looks pretty well after being cleaned with the mequairs shampoo.....

Oh and a picture of the offending item in question

Had I not caught him in time, gawd knows how much of the car he could have done

As it seems not to be very deep, looks like the best thing for you to use is Mer, don't go mad, and it will disappear

See here £10

Thread belongs in the cleaning forum as it does not relate specifically to a model.

The laquer on Phantom Black paintwork shows up scratches really easily. You have to be really careful. I now use the two bucket method using lambswool mits which has helped. You'll probably have to have the laquer rubbed down with very fine abrasive paper and compounded using a machine mop to get rid of the scratch or you could try Merquires Scratch X but be careful not to rub too hard.

Get a good wax on it like Swissoll and its much easier to maintain a good consistent finish without swirly scratches emerging.
