Scratched Alloy Wing Mirror

I seem to have acquired a scratch on my RS6 alloy wing mirror where some kind member of the public has etched a wonky '8' onto it. I can feel the scratch with the tip of my nail but it's not very deep.

Anybody know if this can be polished out? I'm presuming the wing mirror casing is actually real metal and can therefore be worked on.

Anybody with any ideas on what process to use and what materials/products I should acquire. I want to retain the matt aluminium finish rather than a polished steel look plus I don't want lots of swirl marks on it from the polishing process.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Rich.

have a look at this site, you'll need a pretty abrasive polish/compound by the sounds of it, (and an orbital) which is obviously worth trying before a respray. What the people on this site dont know about detailing isn't worth knowing. It can be a bit of a minefield but I'd register, post a pic if you can and you'll get some advice I'm sure... I'd try Autoglym SRP, which does a v good job of heavy swirls, so you might get some of it out with that. And Megs Scatch X of course!
