Wheel refinishing

Well i finally scuffed a couple of my lovely Sportecs the other day, it was either the curb or have a tipper tuck in the side of the car, so i chose the curb...scrape scrape
I got intouch with a guy who comes to your house and refinishes wheels on site, he charges about £35 per wheel which i thought was acceptable, but when he arrived this morning, he said that he couldn't do mine as the wheels are not painted, but are dipped into a chrome coloured plastic and them have a smoked laquer applied......i have never heard of this type of finish!! He told be that the only way to sort them out was to have them completely stripped and refinished, but wouldn't be the same colour, so i would need to get all 4 done. Hmmm how chuffed am I???
I am thinking about a quick trip to Mr Halfords for some silver paint and try to touch them up myself. Any thoughts??
