First Wash After KDS + GTechniq
First Wash After KDS + GTechniq
Oh how the neighbours laughed at me!
Not much more than a week after KDS's superb job on my car, and it's absolutely filthy!
Well, it was for good reason, a 900 mile round trip, plus about 250 miles away driving some fantastic roads in sunny Scotland with some other forum members! Vid here if you haven't seen it:
https://youtu.be/32YQbPVM890
The result:
Time to get to work! I had dry weather, just over an hour to spare, and a box of some new goodies from gtechniq. Got some G-wash, quick detailer, and GTechniq mitt, drying towels and microfibres, to add to my collection of car cleaning supplies.
I started with the wheels. Before:
Gave them a spray of GTechniq W6:
Perhaps an odd way to do things, but after the wheel cleaner has had a couple of minutes, I like to spray just the wheels with snowfoam (bilt hamber). I find it helps take the loosened dirt off the wheels after applying the wheel cleaner.
Now, if it was just a light clean, I could get away with just jet washing off, but this time I had to agitate first. The wheels are already sealed with GTechniq C5. 1" brush..
Wheels ready to be pressure washed:
And then after pressure washing, looking more like it!
Time to snowfoam the whole car:
I've got to say I was really pleased with the gTechniq wash mitt. It holds so much water! Much more than my previous lambswool mitt. Combined with the freshly corrected paint and ceramic coating, it just glides over the surface of the car. Most satisfying.
After hand washing the car (2 buckets of course) with G-wash and the new mitt:
Time to break out the GTechniq drying cloths. I got 2, as per Rob Earle's advice (gTechniq MD). They are really lightweight and supposedly draw water through their surface layer into the core of the towel. They were much thinner and lighter than I'd expected, which didn't fill me with confidence...but I was mistaken! They really do the job! They leave a much drier and streak-free finish than any of my other towels. used one to dry the whole car, then went over again with the second cloth to collect any minor streaks/drips.
After drying the car easier and more thoroughly than I'd ever done previously with any of my vast collection of microfibre towels, I decided to put another of Rob's tips into action. He said on email that the finish can look a little dull if there are minor amounts of water left behind, dried on the surface. A way to get round this is by giving the car a quick once over with quick detailer.
And the final result.
In your face neighbours at no 13!!!

Looks awesome mate, I've been looking at getting one of those Gtechniq mitts, might have to give the drying cloths a go too
I always finish off with a quick coat of QD spray, gives the car a lovely gloss shine once you've dried it off.
Great results, you're RS is looking mint
Trups the W6 is a fallout remover, bloody good one too!

Ozzy. I always thought fall out shouldn't be used as your weekly wheel wash? I'm sure it strips a lot of the coatings away or has someone told me some dud info?

Thanks Gents!
Ozzy, got your Porsche back from KDS yet? If so, pics!!
Definitely look into the GTechniq wash mitt and drying towels, I was impressed.
Trups - The W6 is meant to be OK to use regularly without damaging coatings. I'm liking it better than the sonax cleaner I was using previously.
Dave - That thread is brilliant!
