anyone know what this imperfection might be?

The car is just back from KDS where it had a gold detail and gtechnique crystal serum protection.
Whilst two nucket washing it today I noticed this mark on the wing - It definatley wont wash off and I am not going near the car with polish!

I've gone back to KDS as I expect they would have spotted it during detail and attempted to correct it but seeing as it looks like it wont polish out I am interested to know what it might be?

Bird <beep>?

Cheers all

Kev - bird <beep>. My black metallic VW toeragg had a bird <beep> mark on it - highly acidic in the right area and a pain in the arse - no pun intended :(

Try a place like "Little Knocks" or "ChipsAway".
Better still, an independent guy of the same ilk.
They'll do a great job and match it well at a fraction of the cost of a full respray...

Mmmmmm - normally some meguirs scratch x may shift it, but being coated, you'd have to re-coat it. Crystal serum is too tricky to apply to the amateur. But gtecniq c1 yes and two coats if Exo 2 yes. I had a small scratch I think caused by a coat zip or alike. No idea. But Meguirs scratch x sorted it and then did c1 and two coats of exo2 in the isolated area. Worked a treat would never know. But that would be a marry up of two coatings - crystal serum and c1. Can't see the issue now the serum has cured...

Other than that, paint :(

It is bird shizzle mate and I would have expected it to have been remedied if it had been there before, if it wasn't then its post detail and that can only mean either the coating didnt really do what it is perceived to do or it was sat on there for a while before it was washed off, all the same not a very pleasant situation.

Yup, that's the result of a bird emptying it's guts on the paint ( feathered kind mind you).

Once it has sat on the paint and had a bit of sun, it eats into the clear oat and is a real bastard to remove.

I would be very surprised if Kelly at KDS left that there knowing how much of a perfectionist he is. It can be removed CAREFULLY if it hadn't gone through the clear but I would leave it to a specialist with a paint depth gauge.

As mentioned, if coated, this shouldn't happen if the crap was washed off fairly quickly. But dependent on how long or how hot the sun was is the key.

Update from KDS [who I visited today]
>>
That is almost definitely a bird poo stain, and if it had been here when the car was here it would not have left with it.
We've had a word with GTechniq who are also curious for us to inspect the car. You have the new Crystal Serum treatment, with two coats of EXO on top; we already know EXO is less durable than Crystal Serum (by a long way) so an immediate hypothesis is that the EXO coating has been compromised. At the same time, the coatings seem to have done their job because if you didn't even see the poo, we'd guess it was just washed off by rainwater. Most bird poo is tougher than this, especially in summer on a black car where it can bake on very hard, potentially etching right into the paint.
<<

It's going back to them for further diagnosis over the next couple of weeks - watch this space! :jump_clap:

Wouldnt really expect anything else from Kelly tbh, most would throw in the towel and say its the coatings fault, see the manufacturer but there are a few of the good guys out there that have excellent customer care, this is why when looking for a detail/paint correction choose wisely and you will be rewarded with great service, before, during and afterwards, its as they say, you get what you pay for.

Glad its getting sorted mate.

So - a bit of an update. Kelly corrected the bird bomb etching on the wing and it came back looking as good as new - then a couple of weeks later I had another bomb on my roof that left a permanent mark. Queue much nashing of teeth and a honest conversation with Jay and Kelly at KDS has resulted in the director of Gtechniq getting involved. Unfortunately, the bird bomb on the roof has resulted in permanent lifting of the paint which has cause much more scratching of heads seeing as this time it damaged the paint beyond repair via normal polishing.

Without going into to much detail my car is now under intensive care and is currently sporting a selection of different protections across it's panels - - Kelly and Jay are comparing factory paint against their paint as well as depths ETC across the car and the bonnet/roof are now sporting at least 6 different panels of varying protection products. I am to keep an eye on the paint and look out for bird bombs and report back to KDS - then every month the car is going back into KDS for a wash up and panel protection review. Finally Gtechniq have very kindly offered to ensure the car paint is 100% when we get to the point where we decide what is going on.

Fortunately, KDS is on my way to work so I can drop it off in the morning and pick it up at the end of the day so it's no hardship for me and I am glad to help Kelly out to be honest plus the car gets really well looked after by the lads - It's a no brainer.

So time will tell over the next few months - I'll report back when I have more.

Cheers.

This explains how the bird shizzer damages the paint, I always thought it ate into the clear coat until I read this. Many of the dealer coatings such as Diamondbrite used to state they protected paintwork from bird bombs but they were made to remove the claims recently as it was proven that they don't offer any protection. It looks like these new ceramic coatings are no better.

Thanks for the link - useful.

I'll reserve judgement but for now I agree - it does look as if Gtechniq's claim that crystal serum "can withstand even the strongest wash chemicals and bird droppings" does not apply to my paint/car

This gear is ok for trailer princesses but road cars.....?

Stick 2x Coates of Polish Angel ceramic on it! 90-95% as good and 400% tougher! Lasts up to two years, none of this two bucket rubbish needed (unless ur not well in the head and drag the sponge along the bottom of bucket!!!) and just quick detail spray when ur done washing the car.

Btw Kev, that's what I used on mine but I didn't take the time to flat the paint off properly (ie 4 types of light, using the rotary etc).

Oh and many bird poo's have come off no problem.
