Silver trim yet again

Sorry to bring up a very old chestnut yet again but has anybody stumbled on anything yet that will deal with the milky discolouration that occurs on the silver window trims? I've read for the umpteenth time tonight (on another forum) that werkstat prime is good but has anybody here used it? I thought that the discolouration was under the top coat therefore polishes would have no effect? I just want to explore all the cheap options before I go down the road of wrapping or replacing!

I swapped out the four window trims as they are the most noticeable and cheapest.
Cost me roughly £90+vat for the four, you hardly notice the upper and rear ones now.

How easy to do (for a mechanical idiot like me)?

As far as i can tell, you need to strip the door down and I thought I read that you have to drill out the rivets that hold them on.
PS removing the door trim is a doddle if you have the right guide and gets quicker every time you do it.
