Thanks John.

I know I said I'd find out, but haven't been able to get anyone to speak to me about it
Either that or our reception at work is up to its usual tricks !

I'll see if I can get prices tomorrow including fitting.
All of that lot adds up to 400 quid. What's the betting it'll be nearer twice that with fitting

Cheers,
John.

Right,

at long last I finally got an answer direct from Armourfend (seems the place I was calling no longer fit it !)

For:
- front bumper + lower skirt
- R wheel arches
- Side sills (full)
- top of rear bumper

parts cost is £275
install cost is £95
and to travel to me to fit it is £76
This gives £446 + vat = £524 incl.

Install time is about 2 hours, and all they need is a well lit double garage.
If we have 2 cars done at the same address then only one travel cost is incurred (saves 45 quid each).
If we go to them in Essex then clearly no travel cost is incurred, which saves 90 quid each. I couldn't get any other discount for having the 2 done at once. I did try

So, what do you think ?

Cheers,
John.

Okay, looks like there are 3 of us on for this.

What I'd like to know is which parts you'd want fitted.
Then I will ask again about a discount, and try to establish a fitting date. Weekends or Friday PM is best for me, but I can be a little flexible on this (might have to fit around the builders though).

I have sufficient room for the install if it is within the next 2 weeks. After that scaffolding will stop me using my garage for a while (minimum of 2-3 weeks while roof is replaced on bungalow)

The alternative is I can borrow an e-z-up for them to work under, but not sure if it is cover or being dust-free that is more important...

Let me know guys and I'll call them again tomorrow (Thursday).

JohnW,

I have the same parts done as you. Can they do the whole of the rear bumper?

Anyone know the prep required, as I'm sure I have some dead flies attached to car on the way down. Further; should I get the car clean as poss using some gloss/wax etc or just car shampoo. Have you got a pressure washer John, otherwise I can bring one down.

weekends & friday pm look good so far.

I got armourfend to fit front bumper, sills and boot lip, it cost around £400 and I drove to them in Essex

It took about 4 hours to do the front bumper

The thing is it is a flat sheet of sticky back plastic that they need to shape and cut to your car so it just takes time

Dont worry about waxing as they will use a spirit wipe to remove any wax, grease and flies etc so the film will stick

Good luck

I'll ask the questions, but I would expect them to clean the car prior to applying the film (well, not all of the car, just the bits they have to ! )

Also, I doubt waxing it would be a good idea as the film could end up moving on the wax layer.

Yep, I have a pressure washer (cheap karcher job).

John, Same bits that you have listed would be fine by me. Previous owner seems to have fitted it on side sills but not fully so no problem I assume to remove and fit new. Next 2 weeks would be fine by me.

Guys,

they won't wave the travel costs, but split 3 ways it becomes £29.77 each rather than £89.30 (incl vat).

However,...

they will offer a futher 15% off the parts, which is £48.47
Therefore, we stand to save a decent amount (total now is 354.08+vat => £416.05incl compared to 446.05+vat => £524.11incl)

Earliest they can come out now is Wednesday 30th. Saturdays are fitting at their site only.

Now the fly in the ointment...
I cannot guarantee that I will be able to access my garage in this week.
John, do you by any chance have a double garage ?
It has to be a double for them to be able to work around the car with the garage door closed.
I will ask my builder tonight, but I cannot afford to have him and his guys not working just so I can maintain garage access. It would cost a whole lot more than the potential saving above

Ken, you have my mobile number, so give me a call if required. John, I'll pm you in a minute. I'll be in Ripley this evening at a bike meet, so could drop by to introduce myself if your about.

Answers quick as you can please, as the longer we leave this the later the booking will become.

Cheers,

Just one little question...
What is the extra weight and how does the handling feel?

Probably about the same as a good crap would save

Honestly, I don't know, but it is only plastic film after all, and if I was that worried about weight I'd just leave the wife behind !
