Wheel refinishing

Post by Tweaky » Wed Mar 24, 2004 5:36 pm

Well i finally scuffed a couple of my lovely Sportecs the other day, it was either the curb or have a tipper tuck in the side of the car, so i chose the curb...scrape scrape

I got intouch with a guy who comes to your house and refinishes wheels on site, he charges about £35 per wheel which i thought was acceptable, but when he arrived this morning, he said that he couldn't do mine as the wheels are not painted, but are dipped into a chrome coloured plastic and them have a smoked laquer applied......i have never heard of this type of finish!! He told be that the only way to sort them out was to have them completely stripped and refinished, but wouldn't be the same colour, so i would need to get all 4 done. Hmmm how chuffed am I???

I am thinking about a quick trip to Mr Halfords for some silver paint and try to touch them up myself. Any thoughts??

I've just had my CSL wheels done by a company called Lepsons in Gillingham painted in black chrome. Really professional outfit where they dip the wheels back to bare ali then prime, repaint, bake (like a normal bodyshop) the whole wheel. Amazing quality (better than the paint on the bloody car). Cost is about £40 a wheel (but you'd need to get all 4 done so they'd match).

The colour of the SPortecs is indeed a nice colur, if you refinish them with the guy in the van dont bother you will be dissapointed, the smae if you use aersol from Halfords

there is a place in London who AMD have used to refinish Sportecs, they did Andy Laws and they came out well

Give them a call 020889688737 called Diamond Styling

Never used them myself but heard good things about them

Good luck

Would that be the Andy Laws that drives an S3 and used to have a Nitrous Golf that seemed to blow up every other month?

Wicked wheels in Guildford can match any finish - for the chromed wheels they use an enamel under the laquer. Will do it at your house, good guys
