Saggy Leather

Post by david7m » Wed Oct 22, 2003 10:10 pm

I have an S3, and in order to keep the seats looking and smelling like new, I brought some Auto Glym Leather Care. When I put it on, the seats go shiney and look cheap, but that eventually soaks in and they look really good.

The problem I have came across are some indent marks in the leather, it looks like a heavy object has been left there for a while, but no one has sat there !

I suspect that I have applied too much leather care and it has made the leather sag.

How can I make the leather regain its shape?

David ive got the cream and cleaner and would advise not to use the cream and only use the cleaner... works well for me.

You are not applying the Autoglym correctly for the desired finish. If you read the instructions it tells you how to get a 'flat' finish. I use Autoglym and my leather looks brilliant. I did try another make, and was really disappointed by the finish and cleaning ability.
You should be able to achieve a lovely satin finish to the seats with minimal effort.

Ive tested the cream a few times and never got it to work right, it always left the leather looking cheap..... ive always used the cleaner every 5000miles or so and its worked wonders for my seats......

I only have the 325ml bottle of leather care and the instructions on the reverse don't mention 'flat' finish, how do you do this?

David,
Having had several cars with leather interiors, ranging from early 60's MGs to a Mk 4 Golf, I was also very dissatified with many of the leather care products. I didn't like the Autoglym either as I found it left the seats sticky & greasy for a long time and then took a long time for the finish to settle down. In the end I got chatting to someone from the Aston Martin Owners Club and he said all their members use something called Liquid Leather. It is not even expensive, costing about £12 for a bottle of cleaner & a bottle of conditioner. It is the the only Leather Care product I have come across that is easy to use & does exactly as it says on the tin. I have not used anything else since - give it a go & see how you get on:

I have Audi's own stuff kicking around somewhere. There is a cream and also a bottle of liquid from memory.

Is this stuff any good before I test it?

Robert.

David,

this may sound like a stupid suggestion but on one of the car programmes on sky over the christmas period I heard that putting an ice cube on an indent in the leather tightens it back up again.

I've not tried this, but it may be worth a shot...

Cheers,
John.

In the end I rang a leather sofa shop and they suggested using a warmish setting on a hair dryer !

It has seemed to work, but the weather has gone that cold and wet that I haven't tried it again.
