whats the best car polish to use
whats the best car polish to use
how often do u polish ur car i tend to do it once a month is this too much
I use Zymol. If you are using a polish with light abrasives in then this effectively removes a small amount of paint every time you use it say like autoglym resin, they remove light scratches because they are midly abrasive. Wax as in Zymol is not abrasive and coats the paintwork to keep all the nasty road grime away from the paint. Having said that I used autoglym most weeks on a few of my cars with no ill effects so you should be okay. If you wash it, clay it, prime it and wax the generally you dont use a polish on it as a) it doent need it and 2) you remove all the wax that you have worked so hard getting on. With Zymol my car is still beading 2 months downthe line and it gets washed every week.

Wax is only the beginning! (or end lol)... get yourself over to www.detailingworld.co.uk and see for yourself, great community and superb hints a tips for the novice to professional - be warned though, it WILL sap your life...
SRP has lots of fillers in to help 'mask' the scratches, hence all the dust when your taking it off, so its not actually removing the scratches, merely masking them..
Having a VAG car, we need quite hefty products to remove defects due to its rock hard clear coat, and this usually comes in the form of Mezerna, but you will need to use a machine such as a PC or Megs G220 to use it effectively.
Then once your happy with the finish use your wax, and with wax, how much do you want to spend? £10-10k? I use the Dodo Juice at the moment as its very good value for money and offers a gloss way above its price bracket, Zymol is obv very good also - but, its ALL down to the preparation!

Collinite 476 - £15 a tub and each application lasts for months.
While people praise Swissvax and Zymol they are pretty expensive as an entry level IMO.
Dodo Wax is something like £30-£35 a tub IIRC, still an expensive product unless you are serious about car cleaning. If you doing things like "2 bucket method" you may be ready to take the plunge.
I think a better investment than an expensive tub of a single top coat of wax are things like a claybar kit or decent application/removal cloths personally. As said, preparation of the paint results in the best finish, even coating your car in a £100 jar of Swissol will net no better results than a fiver on a bottle of Halfords own polish if done craply.
I have been waxing my motors for a while using Megs 3 stage polish, but the difference to the car since getting the proper tools and the Collinite is chalk and cheese.
I think you would be getting carried away with something like a G220 or a PC (both around £120-£150 entry price) if you are bunging on a single bottle of cheapish wax once a month. These are in the main tools for someone very serious about car cleanliness.
Budget?

I bought a poter cable which came with the 3 stage pads and sonus sfx-1, 2 and 3 polish, That combined with some Collinite 915 Marque D'Elegance and 6 hours later produced this:

Admittedly not basic kit but well worth the investment in the long run.

My choice is either Chemical Guys EZ Creme Glaze or Ultra Wet Mirror Look Finish (or both if I have the time) and then two coats of Collinite 915 Marque D'Elegance. PLenty of Nuba in it and still beading after it was applied on Jan 2nd and I wish my RS4 every weekend Great results on Sprint Blue or dark coloured cars too.
