Cleaning Brushed Alloy

Post by itaggart » Fri Nov 02, 2007 12:45 pm

Can anyone recommend how the brushed alloy trim around the front grille of the B7 RS4 can be cleaned/restored. Wash mine regularly but the finish seems dull and small pit marks remain.

Is it not just coloured plastic? Didnt think it was actually alloy..? May be wrong, but I use 303 Aerospace protectant, you can get it here www.cleanyourcar.co.uk - its great on all plastics, giving an as new finish.. use it on the engine bay, interior plastics, rubbers etc etc etc... loads of uses, great matt, oem look!

Yes it is plastic - so what ever you do don't go using any metal polishes like I read some members on here using on their also plastic mirrors on the B7 RS4.

I'd go for a simply plastic polish first. Not had any probs with mine thus far. However if it is lightly scratched you could use some a very fine cutting agent e.g. Safe-Cut (Halfords etc) that's really mild but try this down the bottom of the grill first. only rub in one direction (along the trim) and see what it does to the silver plastic go easy though. Stop regularly and remove the Safe-cut to see what is happening. I'm fairly certain this is silver all the way through the plastic as I have a stone chip in mine and it seems to be silver at the bottom of the chip but I'm not 100%.
