weird having your hand in a cloth bag
Although I have a wash mit, I have never worn it as a glove as I agree that would feel weird, just use it/hold it as you would a sponge and I am sure you would get on a lot better with it.

PS... Daves washing instructions by email as he suggests above is a must; Dave I thought it was very well written (it must be for me to understand it). I still laugh about when you reviewed the various car products that I had in my shed, most of them ended up either down the drain or in the bin  Nearly time again for you to work your wonder on the RS6!
Present:...
Lotus Evora GT410 Sport, Caterham 420R, CCM Spitfire, VW T2 Bay Window 1976

Past:
DB11 AMR, 992, 991.2, Yamaha MT01, 640d Gran Coupe, 635d Coupe, RS6 C5, Audi TT 225 Coupe, Astra with wind up windows, Citroen ZX, Rover 213, yes behold, a Rover 213... Renault 5

Don't drink it Stevie! The Swissol, or Swissvax as its soon to be called, is good and does smell nice etc. I'd suggest there are products that are as good as Swissol for a fraction of the cost...and that's from someone who sells Swissol/vax! I advocate Johnsons Baby Bath for maintaining a waxed car - it works.

Nothing wrong with Autoglym shampoo either, again it's a product I use when I treat car...a stronger than normal mix is effective during the first step of the detail; getting the cr*p off the paint.
Whether it's "frothy" or not doesn't matter at all...a shampoo is needed to loosen and help the mitt lift the dirt off, it also provides that important lubrication - perhaps that's were Chalky's problem is? Try a stronger mix.
I'd also suggest avoiding the so called shampoo/wax products, they add nothing.

Dave

A good pre-soaking will help soften the dirt and ought to get rid of most looser heavy stuff.

Chalky, you can get Triplewax (in a white bottle :?) from Wilkinson, usually with 50% or 100% free (can't remember).

I use AutoGlym too, but with three caps fulls to a bucket, IIRC, the instructions say 2 cap fulls......

Are you sure you need me Steve? I thought my first visit was "look and learn"...albeit it was you looking out on me in the rain
Really looking forward to getting out and about again, I've had it with domestic duties :(
Hopefully March once I'm in with a chance of decent'ish weather

Agree with "don't wear the mitt while you wash" I too hold it like a good 'ol fashioned sponge, far more natural

Thanks for all the advice,

The thing is the mitt is like a flannel its just thin and floppy  so you cant hold it like a sponge, not unless i stuff my sponge inside it, now there,s a thought.

i had a look at the swissol shampoo and nearly ordered some earlier,

jac-in-a-box what would you suggest? carry on with the autoglym ? i just saw a huge trade bottle on fleabay for £20 and damm near bought it, its gone now.............

i bet the trade stuff is better than the consumer stuff too ?

And i,m not joking this cleaning car thing is adictive i,ve definately got the bug and cant wait for the weather to warm up a bit,

All, thanks again, and keep the advice comming in i,m sure there are other folks reading this who are benefitting too.

Good idea Chalky - stuff your sponge in the mitt, I'll be giving it a go!

I'd have no problems in recommending the AutoGlym shampoo if you're using a sealant like the Klasse AIO.

Not sure what size the ebay offering was, £20.00 sounds a lot if it's the 5ltr size. I pay £12.00 from a local shop for 5ltrs and that's not discounted to me. Fairly sure that's same stuff as is in the smaller 0.5ltr bottles from Halfords etc
At the end of the day I think most shampooo's are much of a muchness...certainly the higher priced offerings from Swissvax/Zymol are designed to be effective and gentle on their wax finishes - but as I pointed earlier, there are cheaper and just as effective offerings from other, often unlikely, sources!

Yep £12 for 5 Litres is a bargain,

Can you get me some?

As above £5 - £6 for half a litre.

Postage could be a problem though i suppose? i,ll just hang on in till some more appears on fleabay,

Or better still can any one buy locally or do you have to be in the trade.

If I could get them at £12, I'd list them on the bay for £25.....would still be cheaper than our £60 (£6*10) equivilant!

No it's not trade price...it's a local accessory shop and that price is available to all.

I'd be happy to get some and post, just fear the difficulty of packing and posting would make the price less attractive.

Another good one to try and may be easier for you to source locally is a shampoo made by Comma...a lot of their oils are sold through trade outlets. I picked up 4 x2ltr bottles for £8.00. Seems to be pretty good; a straight shampoo, dirt comes off well, lubes the mitt - what more do you need? That's a walk in non-trade price as well.

www.commaoil.com you should be able to pick up a stockist near you from their site.

Slightly o/t...Comma make a superb tyre shine called "Tyre Black" in an aerosol for around £3.00 a can it's blo*dy great stuff - pretty durable and given a wipe over after application leaves a nice natural sheen to the tyres.

Hmm, Just had a nosey on the site - doesn't show the shampoo.
Bar code No is 5 011846018321 Product code CS2L
It may be discontinued which is why it was cheap, or it's new and hasn't been displayed on their site (I supsect the former)
Still worth hunting down IMO

That's all my secrets for the night!

Dave
