Potential New S4 owner

Hi everybody, I'm looking to buy a new (to me) S4 Avant and am doing as much research as possible before I buy.

Can anyone give an insight into things to look for when buying, warranties I should look for and general running costs? I'm looking for a 2-3 year old Avant with the 3 litre SC engine.

I'd also like to get a detachable tow bar fitted and would use it to tow a car trailer and car (occasionally).

I do mainly motorway miles, and read somewhere that you could see returns up to 35 mpg (with a very delicate right foot).

Ta

So my B8 S4 is 2.75 years old and I've had it for 3-months now. I found the following:
a) The Long distance DIS mpg reading is consistently about 1.7mpg towards the optimistic end.
b) My true mpg is nearer 26mpg measured from tank to tank. The nearest I ever got with light footed driving (hah) was about 28mpg. With a seriously heavy foot you'll get nearer 22mpg.

Don't let all of that put you off though. My purchase decision spreadhseet was based on an optimistic 30mpg.

Oh yeah, I drive 1500 miles a month of which 80% is motorway.

Maybe it's because I have the FL S4 it I get 35-40mpg on the motorway at 70 and when driving hard like this morning I get/got 16.9mpg. Compared to what I've had before the running costs are high. I do 1000 miles a month and over the year will average about £400 per month plus the purchase of the car. £1000 a month for me. Ouch.
