Full service pricing

Gents,

I have been quoted £370.00 for a full 40,000 mile service to include spark plugs, oil change etc. Is this reasonable compared to your experiences .

The above price does not reflect any potential additional work.

I appreciate your feedback.

Cheers...Jem

Yes, that's about right.

Mine cost me £ 423 a month or so ago, including a couple of extra bits.

I recently bought my S4 with 30K miles on it. Before I bought it I asked about the service history, and when the next one was due, since I had been told that the 40K service was a big one - cambelt changed? They told me the 40K would cost around £800 so yours sounds quite cheap!

Cheers,
Andy

Hi Andy,

The cost is without a cambelt change. I would hope this is not the case as the car has only 19,000 miles on it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the scheduled cambelt change was at 80K miles.

I guess the other variable on cost is whether you are on the fixed or variable service intervals.

My Jan 99 model doesn't have the option of the variable servicing, but I wouldn't want to leave the oil changes any longer than 10K miles anyway.

The S4 has cambelts at 80k miles and that service is £700-800. RS4's have cambelts at 40k miles, so maybe they got them mixed up ?

Cool,

It seems the price I am being charged is the norm for a 40k service. I wonder however, due to the low mileage whether it is necessary to have a full 40k service?, could I be paying for the sake of it rather than out of necessity?...

What do you knowledgable chaps think?

I would suggest that you maintain the service/time intervals....otherwise you may devalue your car come resell time.

My car in 4/5 weeks time is having a 37,000 mile service (40K) - I had a quote from Finchley Rd Audi (to include cambelt change) £729.00 I called H R Owen Audi in Colindale, £460.00 and said they may need the car for 2 days (6 hours of labour) - Can anyone recommend any other dealer in London?

Thanks

Howard, have a chat with Phil Oliver @ Executive Audi in St. Albans - 01727 750900.
I've never had any problems with them before, but I know that the 40k service on an RS4 is not cheap.

Car has come back after its 40k service, even though its only done 19.5k......initially I was quoted £370, but was surprised to get a bill for £520.

Apparently, they made a mistake on the spark plugs to be used on the car and costed a standard spark plug. Does the car use a different type of spark plug to that of a standard A4?....

They also did a brake fluid change which bumped up the price, even though I was under the impression this was included in the price.

After arguing the toss over the spark plugs they reduce the cost of these by 30%, bringing the total cost to £490.

I left there having a feeling I got ripped off! , from a customer satisfaction perspective the dealer has scored a low mark.

Funny thing was, A lady picked up her hubby's A6 after a 50k service, where they changed the front brake pads as an addition and handed her a bill for £700+. Apparently her hubby went ballistic when she told him the cost and was on his way down once he finished work....I was going to hand around to see how this was going to work out, but had to get back to work..oh well?
