How much mileage can an S6 have?

Everyone, I am just after a bit of help. Went and saw a lovely 2002 S6 on saturday for sale at £7200. Its Nogaro Blue and in good condition. The problem is that its done 158000 miles. Now how do the S6 cars stand up to that amount of mileage? Would it be a case of as long as its serviced it would be ok, or do Audi's have a mileage limit? Any comments or help would be appreciated as I am at 2 minds whether to buy or not.. Thanks for taking your time...

Hi matt8442, I was just wondering what put you off buying this car? I ended up buying that S6 and was wondering if there was something that i missed on my inspection? '' The car seems to have lots of receipts from Audi dealers for work that has been carried out and seems a very tidy example. The thing that sold it to me is that I will only be doing about 3000 miles a year in the car, so this will bring the average mileage down, and hopefully shouldn't cause me too many problems with regard to reliability.
I have just sold a TVR Chimaera to by this car so I am quite used to owning an unreliable car, I just hope my decision to buy this car doesn't come back to haunt me. So far I am pleased with the car and can't find fault with it (touches wood) if it is more reliable than the TVR then I am on to a winner. Loved the TVR I just needed something a bit more practical.
Anyway, I was just wondering what your thoughts were?

I have 215k on my 5 pot 20v S4 and its as smooth as ababies bum.
as long as its been looked after and serviced when needed then I am sure you will have many happy miles of motoring left in the ole dog yet.
Enjoy and where's the photos please?

Thanks, that was the reply I was looking for, better than "you shouldn't have brought that, it's on it's last legs" this one is, as you put it "smooth as a babies bum" as well very pleased with it. I will post some pics in the next few days, I have a little bit more detailing on the car to do.

i'd rather have a well looked after high mileage car than a negleted low mileage one, i bet you get years out of it with normal s6 running costs

Gotta be honest there was nothing I could fault the car with, but I really am after an RS6. I took the car for a test drive and it was fine, the guy i spoke to was honest and it was almost a match made in heaven. Then a friend of mine took me out in his RS6 and well...you can guess the rest. Good luck with the car, its great no doubt, but I am waiting out for that elusive RS6...Big space on my drive for when it comes!

Audi's dont have a mileage limit.... define engine life... you can kill a brand new engine pretty soon after new purchase, ( look how many B7 RS4's have had engine replacements for what ever reasons...) OR you can get hundreds of thousands of miles from an Audi engine and STILL be on its original components. Its the luck of the draw here but a sound service history and proper care warming up and cooling down of the turbos ( if you have them) will help extend the engines life.
a chap on quattroforum has over 300000 miles on his original 20v RR engine.... and clutch believe it or not!!
says it all really!!

Hi All,
I agree totally that a high-mileage well cared for car is often a great buy, assuming the price takes mileage into account Especially if service records are available so one has documenation of major work like cam belt change and gearbox flush, brake work, etc.
Most high mileage cars have fairly easy miles, going in a straight line down a freeway in high gear for miles on end with no stoplights. The odometer's numbers keep advancing, but it's just a number.
Often, the high mileage car demonstrates the quality of care that the car got better than a lower mileage one; without good care the car's condition gradually goes downhill as the miles add up. (my '02 S6 avant just passed 100K)
I just bought a 2005 Volvo S60 AWD with 89K miles that looks fantastic in and out. I'll probably get another 100K out of it or more.

I know of a green 2.4 V6 A4 (B5) with 312,000 miles that just sailed through it's MOT...
